Nadeel voor de liefhebbers is dat die hier natuurlijk al veel van hebben. Ander nadeel is dat iedereen wel iets mist. Maar buiten deze kritiekpunten: een zeer behoorlijke soul-compilatie, met alle grote soulhelden uit de jaren '50, '60 en '70 er wel op. Gewoon ongelooflijk veel goede muziek! Zeker voor beginners een aanrader.

Overdaad schaat niet.

5 disc volgepropt met de bekendste en grootste soul hits.
En ook voor de liefhebber / verzamelaar staan hier dan tog weer een paar (in mijn geval 3) nummers op die de verzameling net weer iets completer maken.

Wil je in 1 x een berg soul in huis halen is deze zeer geschikt net als de "blauwe" tegenhanger Respect.

Beetje vreemde compilatie: heel veel totaal verschillende labels. Atlantic, Tamla Motown etc staan door elkaar, geen chronologie. Wat doen Michael Jackson (niet The Jackson 5, Sly & The Family Stone op een SOUL-verzamelaar?

Daarnaast beetje vreemde combinatie van hits, minder bekende nummers, tranentrekkers (My Special Prayer, What Becomes of the Broken Hearted) en vergeten parels (Take a Letter Maria, Now Is the Time) - cd's hadden dus ook thematisch kunnen worden opgezet. Als ik nu de lijst langsga, word je het ene moment helemaal blij van een herontdekking en vervolgens komt er een helemaal grijsgedraaide hit langs, waardoor de opgebouwde vreugdesboog weer in elkaar klapt.

Wat ik in ieder geval op beide verzamelaars (ook zijn broer) is: Patches

Kom hier terecht via Muziek >> Toplijsten en favorieten >> Het beste per album - onmogelijke zaak om op zo'n korte termijn te becijferen - wel leuk om veel weer eens te zien. Kritiek blijft overeind: dit is niet voor de echte soulio, maar meer Music for the masses. Beetje snel in elkaar gepleurd.
