Een jaar na deze limited handmade box van Rhino werd de box Atlantic Gold 100 Soul Classics uitgebracht. Ik heb even snel geteld, maar daar staan minstens 17 nummers op van deze box. En deze box zou vooral aanvullend moeten zijn op die 100 Soul Classics of de eerder uitgegeven Atlantic Rhythm & Blues 1947-1974 (10 cd). Er zit dus toch behoorlijk wat overlap in.
En het betreft dan ook nog eens vaak de beste nummers van deze box. Kortom: dit is al reden genoeg om je af te vragen of het vele geld wat je hiervoor moet neertellen het wel waard is.

De overige nummers op cd 1 & 2 overtuigen lang niet altijd. Natuurlijk staan er een paar fraaie nummers bij, maar ook een aantal echt mindere tracks. Op cd 3 & 4 is het duidelijk beter gesteld met de kwaliteit. Voor een reguliere prijs zou ik voor die schijfjes nog wel belangstelling hebben, maar niet voor de limited box met bijbehorende prijs die het nu is. Billy Vera, die ook R&B 1947-1974 samenstelde, presteert hier overall wat minder.
