Carl Mann scoorde eind jaren vijftig zijn grootste hit met
Mona Lisa als zestien-jarige op het legendarische Sun label. Een toen al oud nummer en bekend gemaakt door Nat King Cole.
Pretend , Rockin' love en South of the border behoren verder tot de grootste successen van deze artiest met zijn zo herkenbare , specifieke rockabilly stijl.
De man brengt nog altijd trouw zijn oude hits op het podium en die speelt hij op exact dezelfde wijze als 50 jaar terug. Zijn fans willen niet anders en de inmiddels oud geworden baas zelf waarschijnlijk ook niet (meer).
In de jaren zeventig heeft hij een lp opgenomen in , jawel , ons eigen kikkerlandje op het kleine en specialistische Rockhouse label. Overigens door slechts weinigen opgemerkt. Jammer , want Carl leverde met Gonna Rock and roll tonight een prima plaat af.

De cd box is verplichte kost voor de fervente 50's verzamelaar en liefhebber. Anderen doe er beter aan om een Sun verzamelaar met Carl's bekendste nummers aan te schaffen. Tenminste , als je van rockabilly houdt .
