The Beautiful South is voortgekomen uit the Housemartins met Paul Heaton als zanger en boegbeeld. Deze typisch Brits klinkende band - wellicht de reden waarom deze band alleen in GB erg succesvol is - brengt luchtige en ambachtelijke pop met soms cynische dan weer ironische teksten. Vooral vanwege de prachtige vocalen en poppy maar nooit melige melodieën kan ik The Beautiful South waarderen, weliswaar iets minder dan the Housemartins. "Song for Whoever", "A Little Time" en "Rotterdam" zijn hier hun bekendste nummers.
