Keiji Haino, the Japanese guitarist with an underground cult status, takes the lead here, while O’Malley and Ambarchi are providing the perfect rhythm section: noisy, heavy, yet still atmospheric and ‘gentle’. To me, the whole album has a (free) jazz feeling. Not because of the genre, since Nazoranai is more psychedelic noiserock orientated, but because of the interaction between the musicians. They’re really interacting and pushing each other in a certain direction and for a trio that probably doesn’t play together that often, they definitely sound coherent.
