“An instrumental experience that emphasizes emotions rather then the eternal quest for a perfect pop song.”
Sylvium is characterized by rock and ambient oriented songs that show uncompromising character but are still accessible for a broader audience. “We prefer not to be limited by labels like symphonic rock or progressive metal but strive to create our own sound by being versatile. The most important thing is that we use the technique that is at hands to get the maximum sound experience.”
Sylvium was formed in 2010 as a collaboration between Ben van Gastel and Fred Boks. Their passion to create music in a self willed way with a distinctive character made it possible to create something new. Their first album, “Purified” was recorded in their own management. It is an instrumental concept that, thanks to online distribution, has been able to rapidly reach many music lovers.
We were quite surprised that ‘Purified’ was received well by our audience.
Prog bands usually have an instrumental songs on their album, but a whole album is quite rare.
When you listen to the album you can hear the different influences: the symfonic rock from the 70’s, modern progressive rock, freestyle jazz and dark ambient soundscapes. They are all expressed by the divergent style of Sylvium. Still they managed to maintain a unique sound that is still very accessible to the audience.
“The psychedelic excesses of the 60's were not created by a couple of musicians that were out of control, it was the experience of music that was most important. This experience we also try to express in our music.”
