Deze solo-CD heb ik niet in mijn collectie. Ray Davies maakte deze CD om aan de contractuele verplichtingen van het Arista-label te voldoen.
De hoes doet mij denken aan de hoes van de soundtrack van 'Grease'.
Zie ik daar Corky uit de serie 'Life goes on'?

"Deze plaat heeft niets met contractuele verplichtingen van het Arista-label te doen maar is een een beetje misluktes solo projekt van Ray Davies. Goede plaat en zeker de moete waard!
"The only album ever credited to Kinks singer/songwriter/guitarist Ray Davies contains "music from the motion picture": Return to Waterloo is a film written and directed by Davies depicting the daydreams (and nightmares) of a commuter taking a one-hour train trip from the London suburbs to Waterloo train station. The format allows Davies to write a series of story-songs, including "Going Solo" and "Missing Persons," both of which refer to the commuter's daughter, who has left home, "Sold Me Out" and "Not Far Away," punk rock rave-ups expressing the anger of the young people on the train, and "Expectations," a Davies reflection on one of his favorite subjects, the decline and fall of the British Empire. In other words, this is a good Kinks album. And, in fact, three of the songs had appeared on the last Kinks album, 1984's Word of Mouth. But Return to Waterloo is credited to Davies, and the musician list includes all the members of the Kinks except guitarist Dave Davies, which may be the reason for the solo billing. In any case, the billing didn't help sales much, and the film's limited distribution (which seems to have been limited to a TV showing or two and release on home video) didn't promote the soundtrack, either. The album failed to chart and went out of print the year after its release

In Oor's Pop Encyclopedie editie 1992 stond dat dus vermeld, maar die mensen kunnen er natuurlijk naast zitten.
Een hele tijd geleden zag ik bij een import CD-zaak een speciale editie van de CD 'Kinks -The singles collection' waar het album 'Return to Waterloo' als bonus CD aan toegevoegd was. Helaas heb ik hem toen niet gekocht en ben hem daarna nooit meer ergens tegengekomen.
Ik ben erg nieuwsgierig naar deze solo-CD en ben gisteren zo'n beetje overal wezen Googelen met overigens weinig resultaat.
De reguliere CD's van The Kinks waren makkelijker te krijgen.

Op platenbeursen is deze vaak te vinden. Success! Is echt een goede plaat...en zijn eerste solo plaat en niet Storyteller!

Ik heb die verzamelaar maar het is niet deze cd die er als bonus bij zit. De bonus cd bevat oa The Shirt (Unreleased Demo Track0, Rock And Roll Fantasy (Live - prev unreleased), Mr . Pleasant, Celluloid Heroes, Voices in the Dark (Remix), Holiday Romance, Art Lover (Remix), en nog 8 andere tracks.

Is Sold Me Out misschien een top 40 hit geweest? Of wellicht gecoverd door een andere artiest?
Het nummer komt me erg bekend voor....
Over dit album. Prima album van Davies, al is het gemiddelde van 4,17 wel wat aan de hoge kant.
Het kan wat mij betreft niet op tegen zijn meesterwerk Working Man's Café.

Lelijke hoes. Goedkope uitstraling. Mooi album. Contractuele verplichting. Dat is mogelijk. Maar Ray Davies heeft de liedjes geschreven voor een televisiefilm die onder zijn regie is gemaakt. Zowel in de film als de muziek heeft hij veel energie gestoken. Dave Davies weigerde medewerking te verlenen aan het project. Vandaar dat het onder Ray's naam is verschenen. Voor mij meer dan een contractuele verplichting. Is ondertussen ook op CD verkrijgbaar maar helaas zonder bonus tracks. Ik herinner me met name uit de tv film het nummer 'Ladder Of Succes' wat ik graag als bonus track toegevoegd had gezien.
