De eerste LP van twee staat werkelijk vol met uitstekende retro funk, met heerlijke ritmes en breaks. Dat is tot en met Jimmy Scott met Pair and a Spare. Uitblinkers zijn The Boots, Alvin Cash, Freddie Wilson, Melvin Sparks & Donald Austin. LP2 is wat wisselvalliger, hoewel ook daar een aantal sterke songs op staan. Het lekkere Back to Funk van Robert Lowe bijvoorbeeld. En de drie lange titels You're Messing Up My Mind, Why Not Start All Over Again & I Don't Know What It Is but Sho' Is Funky. Na The Counts staan echter 3 mindere songs en het dieptepunt is het refrein van slotsong You Caught Me Smiling. Het orgeltje daarop is echter wel weer lekker. In ieder geval genoeg moois om te gaan luisteren naar dit Westbound Funk.
