Dolores Keane - Lion in a Cage (1989)

uit de liner notes van de verzamelaar The Essential Dolores Keane collection (2cd) verschenen in 2007 op Dara Records "Dolores Keane is a remarkable and rare talent with a unique singing voice that is unmistakably her own. She was born into a family of singers, musicians and song-collectors, and her distinctive voice echoes the rugged landscape of her native Caherlistrane in County Galway. She was taught to play the flute and whistle at an early age by her Uncle Paddy and she made her first recording for Radio Eireann at the age of 5. Later on she appeared on many TV programmes, usually with her aunts, Rita and Sarah Keane, two well known sean-nos singers. In her teenage years Dolores became a founding member of the internationally renowned traditional Irish band, De Danann, with whom she had a major hit single in 1975 "Rambling Irishman". She left the groat the up to move to London, where she fored the bands, The Reel Union and Kinvara, with the well-known musician John Faulkner. the album Lion In A Cage, took her beyond the worl of folk and traditionals, featuring songs by contemporary writers like Paul Brady, Mick Hanly and Kieran Halpin.
