Is dit DeLuxe-uitgave van Starless and Bible Black? Zo kun je hem zien, maar bij King Crimson boxen verbleken andere boxen toch al snel. The White Album met 6 cd's en een BluRay? Een lachertje vergeleken bij Starless.
Wat bevindt zich in de box op LP-formaat:
- een boekwerk op lp-formaat
- een replica van de lp-hoes
- een map met allerlei replica's van tourposters en teksten
- 23 cd's
- 2 dvd's
- 2 BluRay's
De discs zitten netjes verpakt per kartonnen hoesje voor drie cd's, behalve de drie 'bonus' discs die in een onhandige vierkante insteekhoes zitten.
Wat ontbreekt er? De enige onvolledigheid is de LP-versie.
Ik heb me in eerste instantie laten verleiden om een andere box te kopen, Sailor's Tales. En toen die me zo beviel hij ik al die King Crimson boxen aangeschaft.
Waarom zijn ze zo intrigerend? Het gaat toch vooral over de ontwikkeling in de live-opnames. Is het geen overkill? Een overkill kan niet ontkend worden, maar als je eenmaal het punt hebt gepasseerd van "niet weer dat nummer", is het ongelooflijk om een hele tour lang nummers te horen groeien of de 'improvs' te horen. Er zit ook wel eens een minder concert tussen, maar dan krijg je er later weer een fantastisch concert voor in de plaats.
Voor mij is het vooralsnog een Work in Progress. Ik beluister alle boxen simultaan en ben bij de meeste bij de eindfase beland. Starless is fantastisch, maar ik het is niet de beste van de boxen. Over de opgepoetste surround-versies kan ik nog niets zeggen. Zal daar later op terugkomen.
