Nanci Griffith - Poet in My Window (1982)

Wat meer country georiënteerd dan Joni Mitchell, maar daar doet Nanci Griffith wel eens aan denken met haar prachtig ingetogen liedjes en poëtische teksten. Past uistekend als soundrack bij deze grijze dagen op het eind van 't jaar.

haar 2e album dat oorspronkelijk verscheen op het Featherbed label, dat later opging in het Philo label. toen zij dit album opnam, was Nanci Griffith 29 jaar. het songmateriaal is zonder uitzondering van hoog niveau, zoals we van haar gewend zijn. Nanci schreef alle songs zelf, uitgezonderd 10) Tonight I Think I'm Gonna Go Downtown, dat geschreven werd door Jimmie Dale Gilmore & John Reed. zoals mede user Kronos ooit hier postte, is dit inderdaad een mooie herfstplaat met voornamelijk akoestische, ingetogen songs, hoewel "Wheels" een opzwepende melodie heeft met prachtige harmonie zang van "The Gulf Coasters".
de gitarist Brian Wood, die zij destijds leerde kennen in de Austin scene en met wie zij vaak samen in het clubcircuit optrad, speelt een prominente rol op dit album. de "folk" ballads overheersen op dit album, hoewel de country invloeden in meerdere tracks hoorbaar zijn. de instrumentatie is spaarzaam vergeleken met de 2 albums "Once in a Very Blue Moon" en "The Last of the True Believers" die hierna zouden volgen.
de onlangs verschenen box-set met 4 cd's of 4 LP 's is vernoemd naar het nummer "Workin' in Corners". op deze set staat 1 bonustrack "Can't Love Wrong" afkomstig van de sessies voor dit album.
