Ik heb Joni een tijdje moeten missen omdat ze haar rokken had opgetild bij Spotify en daar was vertrokken. Maar inmiddels maak ik ook gebruik van Apple Music en daar heeft ze een prima plek gevonden.

Ik ben deze dagen begonnen met deze verzamelaar maar ik kom maar niet verder dan de eerste twee nummers. Ze gaan steeds op repeat omdat ze zo wonderschoon zijn.

Vooral in For the Roses is haar stem icm met haar gitaarspel alles waar ik naar verlang als ik terug ga naar beelden uit mijn jeugd. Dit nummer is gewoon tastbaar gelijk mijn herinneringen als 4-jarig ventje die zich veilig voelde tussen al die tantes, ooms, neven, nichten, meesters en juffen die in die tijd van de beginjaren 70 hun lange haren hadden, wijde broeken, vreemd gekleurde shirts en truien droegen en een soort zorgeloosheid om zich heen hadden.

Toch tijd om verder te gaan luisteren naar dit album. Ergens te verdwalen in het verleden terwijl ik zo blij ben dat ik Joni weer heb gevonden.. Met haar samen verdwaal ik graag. Wat een muzikant..

Ze staan ook in een afspeel lijstje op Youtube. Ideaal voor mij om kennis te maken met deze box. Ik ben nu een paar nummers ver, en je hebt gelijk; wonderschoon.. Ik houd ook dan erg van de kale versies (zoals ik haar al kende van de live filmpjes uit de jaren 70).
Ik weet of ik een selectie zonder dubbele nummers fijner had gevonden dan zo'n (naar mijn smaak iets te complete) 5 cd box, maar obv wat ik tot nu toe gehoord heb zou ik hiervoor toch wel eens in de buidel willen tasten. Van de serie lijken mij volume 3 en 4 het interessantst.

Na het luisteren van volumes 3 en 4 heb ik deze (3 dus) besteld. Box no.4 vind ik teveel van het goede, en de geluidskwaliteit is minder. Hier is ze vocaal ook echt op haar top. Maar vooral het materiaal, de vaak verassende uitvoeringen en de kwaliteit.. Nummer na nummer, deze box is echt een schatkamer voor de liefhebbers van Joni.
Lang geleden was is zeer blij met de release van de alternatieve mix van Marvin Gaye's Here my dear. Alsof ik een nieuw album beleefde, terwijl ik het origineel zo goed kende. Dat heb ik hier ook. Waardevolle release.
