fraaie verzamelaar van deze legendarische Engelse folkgroep. de nummers zijn afkomstig uit hun begintijd "Early Classics". een fijne kennismaking met hun muziek voor degenen die niet al hun albums kennen.
in de liner notes wordt de band als volgt geïntroduceerd (wellicht overbodig voor de fans van de groep):

Pentangle was one of the key pioneers of the folk fusion movement, which began in the late sixties in England. They gathered a supergroup of master musicians to explore new combinations of traditional English music, blues, jazz and original compositions.
Guitarists John Renbourn and Bert Jansch, who frequently recorded and performed together, were two of England's most influential acoustic guitar players. Their contrbution to Pentangle was mastery of traditional music and a special affinity for the blues. Jacqui McShee, one of the finest singers in the folk revival movement, made her sweet, pure vocals a signature sound of the group's music. Drummer Terry Cox and bassist Danny Thompson were both top studio musicians heavily into jazz.
The Pentangle sound evolved from spontaneous jam sessions, which coalesced into a unique acoustic fusion. "Early Classics" is a selection of Pentangle's greatest recordings that shows the broad spectrum of their music. Their sounds are as fresh and compelling as when they were first conceived and recorded - positive proof that Pentangle's artistry has timeless appeal

weliswaar een fraaie maar gezien mijn eerdere bericht hierboven, achteraf gezien ook een beetje merkwaardige verzamelaar deze "Early Classics", want de 14 nummers zijn alle van hun eerste 3 albums afkomstig, te weten:
tracks 1,2,11 en 12 van "The Pentangle" (1968)
tracks 4,5,7 en 13 van "Sweet Child" (1968)
tracks 3,6,8,9,10 en 14 van "Basket of Light" (1969)
de echte Pentangle liefhebber heeft deze 3 albums waarschijnlijk al lang in huis.
