Hmm, wel veel eer voor wat in de basis maar een mager plaatje was. Maar ja, het is John Lennon, hè? Een van de minste worpen uit diens solocarrière naar mijn mening. Maar er zullen ongetwijfeld liefhebbers voor zijn.
Ik houd het bij mijn CD-versie van 2002, destijds geremixed onder de supervisie van Yoko Ono. Je kunt veel van Yono zeggen, maar de geremixte solo-albums van John zijn een revelatie ten opzichte van de originelen. Mind games ging er toen in mijn beleving geluidstechnisch het meest op vooruit. Ik ben wel benieuwd naar wat deze 'ultimate mixes' daar nog aan toe kunnen voegen.

Mind games, samen met walls and Bridges het ondergeschoven kindje in de Lennon solo catalogus, mind games, vaak betiteld als zijn minste solo plaat, zeker na voorgaande platen als plastic ono band en imagine is mind games als een soort teleurstelling ontvangen. Toch bevat mind games een paar nummers die met zijn beste werk kunnen concurreren, het titelnummer, I know, out of the blues, I,m sorry etcetera laten een gekwelde lennon horen. Mooie nummers, alleen die productie van toen, de sound, Phil Spectoriaans, met lennon als producer, daar lag niet zijn talent, nu de productie is verbeterd komen de nummers vele malen beter tot hun recht, het klinkt simpeler en doeltreffender en niet meer gedateerd. Een aanrader.
