Ook zo lekker dat je de jonge Billie hoort. Wat een stem en performance.
Dit schaf je aan op cd en zet het met trots in de kast. Kost bijna niks en je hebt er de rest van je leven plezier van.

De prijs is inderdaad belachelijk laag. En daarvoor ontvang je niet alleen wat kale discs maar ook een interessant boekje. De eerste opnames uit ‘32’/‘33 zijn inderdaad heel bijzonder. Echt een duik terug in de tijd. Dat geldt voor alle opnames trouwens. Je luistert naar muziek die werd opgenomen terwijl Europa in crisis verkeerde, de tweede Wereldoorlog in volle gang was. Dat is een gek idee.

Billie Holiday, veel over gehoord, nooit gehoord. Recensie in NRC over deze spotbelachelijk goedkope box , bol.com en hup CD1 gaat erin. Moeite met de eerste nummers. Maar dan gebeurt het inderdaad. Achteloze trompet, high hat, pianoriedel alsof je het zelf droomt. HAAR stem die bepaalt en toch volgt. Uithalen, zacht gevooisde , sterk en dan intieme ingehouden noten. 10 zilveren schijven lang. Ik ben intussen de tel kwijt hoeveel avonden en rustige zondagen deze muziek me heeft weten te bekoren. She is, truly, among the greatest of all
