heb altijd gedacht dat het trio Culture vooral in de 70's goede albums uitbracht, maar dat blijkt geenszins het geval. ook in de 80's en 90's bleef deze groep prima "roots reggae" albums uitbrengen, zoals blijkt uit deze fraaie compilatie van 4 albums die op het label RAS Records verschenen. Culture maakte al die jaren nooit een knieval voor het maken van meer commerciële pop reggae.
de nummers op deze compilatie zijn afkomstig van de 4 (moeilijk verkrijgbare) volgende albums:
tracks 3,12 en 18 van "Good Things" (1989)
tracks 1,4,6,9 en 14 van "One Stone" (1996)
tracks 8,11,13, 15 en 16 van "Trust Me" (1997)
tracks 2,5,7,10 en 17 van "Payday" (2000)
de groep beschikte met de in 2006 overleden charismatische Joseph Hill over een prima leadzanger en geweldige songwriter, zoals ook te horen valt op deze 18 tracks met heerlijke "roots reggae" van de bovenste plank met de van hen bekende fraaie harmoniezang.

"When founder Joseph Hill revitalized his popular vocal group CULTURE in 1986, it marked the launch of a series of very successful albums, each adding new crucial tunes to the group's already impressive catalogue. In the 70's the band had made instant reggae history with their roots album "Two Sevens Clash". A handful of albums for producers Joe Gibbs and Sonia Pottinger followed, which are still considered classics by connoisseurs all over the world. But in 1982 Joseph Hill disbanded the group and continued his career as a solo artist, still using the name Culture. In 1986, however, the three singers were reunited and with the albums "In Culture" and "At Work" the group started to reclaim its position at the frontline of roots reggae. Soon, their triumphant return was a fact and 1989 saw the trio join the roster of Gary "Dr. Dread" Himmelfarb's RAS Records, which was at the time also home-base for Israel Vibration, Peter Broggs, Black Uhuru and others. Between 1989 and 2002, the label would release 4 top notch studio albums by the group, as well as two dubs and two live albums" (Roots Controller, August 2009)
