onderdeel van de met een kwinkslag genaamde serie "This Ain't No Tribute Album" met blues interpretaties van Dylan liedjes, waaronder vele klassiekers. 4 andere delen op het House of Blues label werden gewijd aan Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin en de Rolling Stones. alle 5 cd-s verschenen eveneens op de compilatie box "This Ain't No Tribute Blues Cube" (1999).
de diversiteit aan blues stijlen komt uitgebreid aan bod op dit album met uitvoeringen van Mavis Staples (blues gospel), Isaac Hays ( blues/jazz), R.L. Burnside (Delta juke joint blues), Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson (Chicago blues), John Hammond (folk blues), James Solberg (blues rock), etc.
hoogtepunten zijn "Everything Is Broken" (R.L. Burnside) met vlammend gitaarspel van Buddy Guy en Derek Trucks, het merendeels akoestische "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" (John Hammond), de country/gospel wals "Wallflower" met prachtige zang van de Holmes Brothers en Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown op fiddle en Richard Ford op steel gitaar, en de afsluiter "One Too Many Mornings" van The Band met zang van Rick Danko (bass), Gart Hudson (B-3 organ), Levon Helm (drums, harmonica) en een fraaie slide gitaar partij van Derek Trucks.
blueszanger/gitarist Larry McCray zet weliswaar een vurige, soulvolle versie van "All Along the Watchtower" neer, maar de versie van Jimi Hendrix laat zich moeilijk overtreffen.

When Dylan was 20 he played harmonica behind Big Joe Williams at a recording session in New York City. He recorded songs by Blind Lemon Jefferson, Bukka White and Blind Willie Johnson on his own first album later the same year. In 1963, the 21-year-old Dylan compared his abilities to those of his idols, saying "I don't carry myself yet the way that Big Joe Williams, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly and Lightnin' Hopkins have carried themselves. I hope to be able to someday, but they're older people"
