Deze 2 LP verzamelaar uit het einde van de jaren '60 staat vol met heerlijke Stax muziek. Van Southern soulballads, via soulpop hits, naar funky soul & blues: het is een mooie mix. Dat geldt ook voor de artiesten: een paar (hele) bekende en ook minder bekende, met heel wat fraaie songs. Er staat maar een enkele wel aardige song op, de rest is goed tot buitengewoon mooi. (Daarbij kan je zeggen dat kant 1 net wat minder is dan 2, 3 & 4.)
Om er eens een paar te noemen: Albert King met Cold Feet, William Bell en Judy Clay met Private Number, Ollie & The Nightingales met I've Got a Sure Thing en Heartaches Mountain, Carla Thomas met Book of Love, Judy Clay met It's Me, Booker T. en The MG's met Booker's Theme & Jimmy Hughes met Peeped Around Yonders Bend. Bijzonder voor soullabel Stax is het 'Doors-achtige' Smell of Incense van Southwest F.O.B. Als je deze tegenkomt als soulliefhebber: snel meenemen!
