Ook leuk: General Public - Dishwasher (1984), alleen jammer dat het door Frits Ritmeester 'wat is de wereld toch bar, boos en lelijk, klaag klaag klaag, chachrijn (ja, hij was in de jaren 80 een betere acteur in zijn rol van 'vrolijke DJ)' Spits in zijn toenmalige radioprogramma De Avondspits zo verkracht werd. (als een zwakzinnige op amateurtoneel krijste de man erdoorheen)

Ik bedoel ermee dat ze niet verder zijn gekomen dan de tipparade. Het is overigens niet zo dat nummers per definitie in de tipparade hoeven te staan om een hit te worden, een aantal nummers heeft deze lijst zelfs overgeslagen.

Je boeiende toelichtingen zijn zoals altijd meer dan welkom Dazzler!

"The President" met "You're gonna like it" had toch wel meer verdiend dan een bescheiden tipnotering. Luister hoe wonderschoon:

En "Dark glasses" van "Edwina Laurie" is geschreven door "Nik Kershaw", Nik's eigen versie ervan is te vinden op een B-kant van een van zijn maxi-singles.

als deze lijst compleet is (van alle singles die in de tip parade kwamen maar niet in de top 40) dan is het een grappig lijst en ook bewijs dat toen ze al lang doorgebroken en bezig waren (in o.a. GB), waren THE SMITHS tot 1984 helemaal onbekend in nederland!

nu hoor ik vaak mensen zeggen dat ze toen ook al fans waren maar zo te zien hebben ze Stalin als hun midden naam of iets?!?

Helemaal mee eens, dit is een fantastisch nummer, uitermate geknipt voor de radio. Vooral in Amerika waren ze destijds dol op dit soort nummers. Volgens mij zou het met de juiste promotie aldaar een hit geweest kunnen zijn, maar helaas...

The President waren Pim Koopman (ex-drummer Kayak en later een heel bekend producer) en zanger Okkie Huysdens. Het album 'By appointment of The President' (ik heb de LP) schijnt een jaar of wat geleden een Japanse release op CD gehad te hebben, maar is nooit als zodanig in NL uitgebracht. Gelukkig heb ik een verzamel-CD waar dit nummer op staat.

Ik heb net bij het jaar 1982 een top-40 van fantastische nummers uit d tipparade-lijst gemaakt. Ik zal me dit keer inhouden, maar minder dan 25 lukt ook hier absoluut niet.
