heerlijk solo debuut van John Fogerty met een fraaie mix van blue grass, country en gospel nummers. 2 door hem bewerkte traditionals "Blue Ridge Mountain Blues" en "Workin' On a Building" en 10 bewerkingen van zijn favoriete country songs, met o.a. een aantal prachtige ballads als "She Thinks I Still Care" (Lipscomb/Duffy), "Please Help Me I'm Falling" (Robertson/Blair) en het Merle Haggard nummer "Today I Started Loving You Again".
om maar een open deur in te trappen, een tijdloze klassieker met fijne afwisseling van de blue grass van "Blue Ridge Mountain Blues", de (country) gospel songs "Workin' On a Building" en "Have Thine Own Way, Lord" en meer up-tempo country/pop nummers als "I Ain't Never" en "Hearts of Stone".

"The Blue Ridge Rangers" was first released in 1973, a year after Creedence's final dissolution. It seemed ostensibly to be the work of a group, with five musicians silhouetted on the sleeve. They were, however,
all the same person and the entire work: music, voices, arrangement and production was down to Fogerty. For all that, the album was far from self-indulgent and "The Blue Ridge Rangers" showed the same economy and stripped-down excellence which had made Creedence Clearwater so special.
With this one-off session over, John Fogerty then looked towards a "real" solo career and began work on his eponymous 'debut' album. Just why he chose anonymity for this partcular record has never been fully explained; what remains undeniable is how excellent a collection it is"
