Heb de site van deze groep bezocht en een berichtje achtergelaten:

Hello all,

My name is Gert Eggens and I live in Assen, The Netherlands.

Although The Nashville Teens are relatively unknown in The Netherlands I got to know about you through a book called 'Call Up The Groups'. After reading the chapter about you I was immediately interested. But unfortunately there was no way to get records of you guys in The Netherlands. We're talking early eighties. Then I found a tape with a weird but very interesting Decca compilation album called 'Hard Up Heroes' and it had 'Tobacco Road' on it. That song blew my mind!

A few years ago I finally could get my hands on my very first Nashville Teens compilation album called 'Rockin'Back To Tobacco Road'. It's not the usual run of the mill hits but a very nice compilation of tracks recorded especially for radio transmissions, and some rare and unreleased tracks as well. Looking at the booklet I gather you guys were involved in this project. Well done.

And yesterday I finally could get my hands on a re-release of your debut album and a load of bonus tracks from the 1965-1971 era, released by Repertoire. Living in The Netherlands, relatively close to the German border, I could get me a copy from the German Amazon store. It will be delivered in Germany at the address of a German co-worker and het will take it with him to my work in Groningen. The specific reason for wanting the Repertoire album is that it contains the original single version of 'Tobacco Road'.

It would be nice, however, if someone would go through the trouble to go through all of Decca's master tapes and make a definitive collection. There is another compilation of you guys aroud, but there's a lot of overlap with the Repertoire CD.
I would love to buy a two or three disc set with your complete output!

With kindest regards from The Netherlands,

Gert Eggens

Prompt kreeg ik antwoord:
Thank you for your interest Gert

Art Sharp, one of our original vocalists, is well connected with the record business (he went on from The Teens to manage ELO among other bands) and he has catalogued and ascertained the ownership and rights to all of the Nashville Teens recordings over the years.

We have (we think) a fairly comprehensive discography published on our web site (although it needs updating because "Sun Dog" is about to be re-released on 21st January 2015 as part of a charity collection of CDs.). It is the same recording of Sun Dog which appears on "Rockin' Back To Tobacco Road."

Unfortunately the band do not own the rights to the original recordings from the early sixties - the only recordings we have direct control over are those on "Rockin' Back To Tobacco Road" plus a track called "Ella James" - which was on an LP called "Best and Rareities" back in the nineteen eighties. We also have some old tapes but they are not in good condition and I dont think they are ever going to be useable. I believe that Decca own the rights to all the early work.

Glad that you like our music.

Daarop reageerde ik met:
Thank you for your kind and informative reply. I really appreciate the fact that you found the time to answer my e-mail.

If there's ever one story I would like to see published on the site it must be how The Nashville Teens got to tour Hungary in the sixties. I've seen the pictures and they're great! Seems like a real adventure story....

Kind regards,

Gert

Waarop ik met toenemende verbazing dit uitgebreide antwoord op kreeg:

Hungary has always been special for The Teens
Several British Bands toured there while Hungary was under communist rule in the sixties - and none of them ever got paid! It seems that the only two bands to return despite knowing the financial risk were The Nashville Teens and The Spencer Davis Group.
The Teens went because they loved the Country and found enormous satisfaction from the audience reactions. I recall Ray Phillips telling me of the bands horror when the police - who were standing in the aisles of the auditorium, used coshes to beat back people who wanted to get out of their seats to dance. I dont think the authorities liked people enjoying Western music. I don't know why Spencer liked the place - he lives in California now and is not in good health. I am planning to visit West coast USA this Christmas and hope that I may get time to visit with him. If I succeed I will try to remember to ask him what the big attraction of Hungary in the sixties was.
I like Hungary too, and have travelled to your Country with The Teens to the Gastroblues festival at Pacs in 2006 and to the same festival with Ray Phillips and The Animals about four years ago. I also had several long weekends in Budapest. One with the two lovely ladies who translate for us while we are in Hungary - and one with my friend Colin (bass player with the Teens) and our wives. It is a beautiful city.
We are hoping that Gastroblues will book The Teens again for 2015 - but have not had confirmation yet.
Roger
