It will include 17 tracks and, instead of having a straight forward mid-tempo sound, "some songs are very quiet and delicate, [while] others are just fucking loud." (Brian Aubert)

this and that.

in the making of our second full length album, we've been lucky enough to work with a lot of the same talented people that helped us out in carnavas. darren waterston is one of them, and he is the shit. he was instrumental in giving carnavas a visual to our sound, and not to mention he has become a dear friend to us. since we're on the topic of artwork, also returning is the very creative graphic designer sara cumings. she's the one that gives our name some class. because of her, fonts will never be the same to us again. with their combined artistry, we're confident that swoon, like carnavas, will be a breath of fresh air in the dying art form of album artwork.

tony hoffer is back in the studio mixing swoon. its great to have him back and we know the songs are in very good hands. he and dave cooley are working very hard to meet our mastering deadline at the end of this month. you couldn't even imagine how many knobs are turned and frequencies embellished to make us sound pretty. its getting close to the finish line and we all await with baited breath...

the landscape of swoon from up here.

INTO THE DARK EPILOGUE

its been almost a year to the day when we entered our rehearsal space to start work on a new album. and even though it easily feels like that was just yesterday, living with swoon every single day for a whole year is the duality. we worked our asses off, tried to push the right buttons, tried not to blow up too many recording studios(that one time wasn't our fault). we tried to do something new and uncomfortable, yet have it be recognizable and reassuring. and throw in some strings and horns while we're at it. whether we reached our goal to get to the highest peak of our own proverbial mount everest, or whether we're balancing precariously atop a heap of rubble which we've created - only one thing is certain to us - we're standing on top of a mountain that is of our own making, and we're intent on enjoying the view from up here.

hopefully you'll enjoy it as well...

Mark it on your calendar. Silversun Pickups, the band that sprang from the Silver Lake scene and onto the national stage in '06 -- and helped create the nebulous and ill-defined "Silver Lake Sound" -- has been patiently crafting the follow-up to their breakthrough debut, Carnavas, which was released nearly two-and-a-half years ago. This morning the band announced that the new Swoon, also on the estimable Dangerbird Records imprint, will hit the stores on April 14.

The album is reportedly finished, though no promos have been sent out of yet. We're not allowed to tell you whether we've heard any tracks from the record -- so we haven't heard any tracks from it -- but have heard rumors that at least one of the new songs is as solid, and thick, and dynamic, as those on the debut, only somehow (what's the word?) earthier. But that's only a rumor.

Silversun Pickups Thinking Big On Second Album

"Some guitar magazine said about us, 'They're pretty cool, but they're too dreamy for me.' We were pretty proud of how we smeared things. Even vocally, you might think I'm a girl sometimes. On this record, we went for that times five."

That's how Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert describes "Swoon," the follow-up to the Los Angeles band's 2006 Dangerbird breakthrough, "Carnavas." The album is expected out by late spring.

"There isn't a single song on here that would've made sense on 'Carnavas.' That album was in-your-face. To me, it's a little naive. I really like that about it. But this one is almost bizarrely big. Every song is that much more complicated."

Look for tracks like "The Royal We," "Panic Switch," "Broken Bottles," "Growing Old Is Getting Old" and "There's No Secrets This Year," plus a 16-piece string section including members of the Section Quartet on select cuts.

Aubert points to "Broken Bottles" as an example of a song that underwent complete transformation from its original version.

"When we first started writing it, it went in so many directions," he says. "It got quiet, then loud. It had like seven parts. It made sense at the time. Even the producer was excited. As we wrote more songs, every time we'd come back to it, it was just terrible. It's all over the place. It felt a little pedestrian. In hour 11 before we went in, I took it home and tore it apart. It's much smaller and much tighter. We kept the one part we liked and wrote something around it.

As for the string section, Aubert admits Silversun Pickups are "not really a ballad band, but there's some slow songs with strings." Two other rockers have strings as well, including "The Royal We," which Aubert says is "truly insane. The strings add this big, fat layer."

Aubert says he and his bandmates are still a bit blown away by the success they've experienced with "Carnavas" and its rock radio hit single "Lazy Eye," which has sold nearly 400,000 downloads.

"It's still weird to hear it in an airport in Oklahoma," he says. "We hear it out places and at bars. One time at a bar here in L.A., I was with [keyboardist[ Joe [Lester] and some song was on and he was like, 'Who is this?' I was like, 'That's you and me, man!'"

The group will return to the road later this year, but for now the lone confirmed appearance is at Coachella in mid-April. [/b]

SSPU maken o.h.a. vrij lange nummers.
