Hoogstwaarschijnlijk de cover van How I Got Over:
Verder staat er bij hun MySpace dat 'ie nog steeds 22 juni dropt. Vind het maar een vreemde gang van zaken, het is erg stil voor zo'n bekende band als The Roots.

Nice, ik heb er zin in 
Wel vreemd inderdaad dat het zo stil is maar goed daar zullen ze hun redenen wel voor hebben, als het album serieus de 22ste dropt hoor je mij niet klagen.

Plaat van het jaar als ze het niveau van de titeltrack kunnen vasthouden... Nooit verwacht dat Black Thought ook goed kan zingen trouwens.

Erg veel samenwerking dus weer? Dat was één van de punten die het vorige album minder maakte. En hoezo zit Dice Raw ook op How I Got Over, en in de clip niet? Moet het dan geen remix zijn?
Verder vind ik Truck North, Dice Raw, Merced Martinez interessant, evenals Blu in combinatie met The Roots. Op John Legend zit ik minder te wachten en ook Phonte had ik niet verwacht. Opvallend weinig tracks trouwens, en geen Kweli en Mos Def.

De tracklist is waarschijnlijk incompleet gezien er interludes missen.

Dat is ook raar inderdaad. Ik zie wel, heb in ieder geval hoge verwachtingen, Black Thought is toch wel een Top 3 MC voor mij persoonlijk.Ze gaan denk ik weer meer dan zang kant op met dit album, en laten de wat rauwere negatieve kant achterwege (zover ik kan oordelen natuurlijk, maar John Legend, Phonte en How I Got Over lijkt me dat wel).

De heren van The Roots weten over het algemeen wel wie ze als gastartiest moeten uitnodigen. Namen die er nu op staan zijn zonder meer interessant en kunnen hopelijk met de begeleiding van The Roots een nog hoger niveau halen dan normaal.

.... Vond het op het vorige album toch soms echt tegenvallen (de gastartiesten). Gelukkig geen Styles P taferelen hier.

Bah, van mij mag het aantal gastartiesten halveren. Zoals Bedorvenkebab zei; het te grote aantal gastartiesten was best een minpunt van Rising Down. Ben wel benieuwd naar de samenwerking met Blu en Martinez (Clock With No Hands )

Het enige voordeel van gastrappers is dat nog meer duidelijk word hoe goed BT is. Op Rising Down was vrijwel geen enkele gastrapper van meerwaarde. Enfin, The Roots geven we altijd het voordeel van de twijfel .

The upcoming CD, being released by Sony Music on September 21, 2010, will feature soulful music from the 60’s and 70’s all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness— effectively telling listeners to Wake Up!
After being inspired by the recent historical Presidential election campaign of 2008, the R&B singer Legend and hip-hop band The Roots felt a need to enter the action. What started as plans for a single quickly developed into a passionate album representing change, hope and activism— not only referencing one particular moment in time, but on a larger scale, holding true no matter what the political climate may be.
The resulting album features eleven profoundly evocative songs infused with sounds of gospel, rock and reggae inflections with hip-hop influences. The album is highlighted by familiar tracks like “Wholly Holy” by Marvin Gaye and “Little Ghetto Boy” by Donny Hathaway mixed with the more obscure selections of Baby Huey and the Babysitters’ “Hard Times,” and “Hang on in There” by Mike James Kirkland.
“These songs sound so relevant now,” Legend says. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric. ‘Wake Up Everybody’ (the album’s first single, featuring contributions from Melanie Fiona and Common) has four verses—the first one is a general statement, the second is about education, third is about health care, and the fourth is about making a better environment. No editing needed.”
“When these songs were written, people were more spiritually in tune,” says Roots drummer/musical director Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson. “It was fresh from the civil rights era and there was a feeling of hope that maybe, yes, someday we will all be free. In 2010, not so much.”
The album features one original composition, Legend’s song "Shine," which is featured in Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim’s upcoming documentary film Waiting for Superman. The song, a "Stevie-Wonder-meets-gospel" stunner, clearly demonstrates the strengths of this specific group of musicians. Wake Up! blends Legend’s expressive, thoughtful vocal interpretations with an element of funk that only The Roots can provide.

The Roots, het live hiphopcollectief, werkt aan de opvolger van het vorig jaar uitgekomen How I Got Over. Het zal het tiende officiële studioalbum van de groep worden, en daar tellen we dan niet de onuitputtelijke bron van EP's en verzamelaars bij. The Roots is sinds de jaren 90 zeer productief met het uitbrengen van albums en sideprojects.
In een interview vertelde ?uestlove dat hij hoopt dat het nieuwe album in november dit jaar uitkomt, maar de verwachting is januari of februari 2012. Ook zei hij dat het nieuwe album een conceptalbum zal zijn, dat een albumtitel zal krijgen bestaande uit een verkeerd gespeld woord.
