Open letter regarding the car accident that took place in the night of 6th to 7th June
Zdob si Zdub betrokken bij een auto ongeluk. Gelukkig heeft iedereen het overleefd en zijn er 'slechts' ietwat kleinere verwondingen. Hieronder het gehele bericht.
The luck wasn’t on the side of the band “Zdob si Zdub”. At midnight, towards the 7th of June, 25 km from Chisinau, at the Vadul-lui-Vida forking, without lowering the speed, a “Volkswagen Sharan” minivan went into our tour minibus. Our bus rolled over several times.
If it wasn’t for our driver, who turned left, a frontal impact would have happened. We were shaken a lot, but fortunately no one suffered serious traumas: mainly, there are wounds caused by broken glass, injuries and bruises. The sound engineer Ion Moraru was less lucky, having his clavicle broken and 5 sutures on the head. He will stay hospitalized for at least one month. The fellow traveller (a girl) of the minivan driver suffered mostly. The minivan driver was drunk and, only thanks to the reaction of our driver, he got out with only an easy affright.
As a result of this accident, 4 concerts were cancelled. On Saturday, the 7th of June, the band “Zdob si Zdub” was awaited by 5000 people at the feast of the “Kievstar” company, in Kiev, Ukraine; on Sunday, the 8th of June – by 20.000 people from the Romanian and Moldovan community, in Torino, Italy; Monday, the 9th of June, we won’t be performing at the traditional Tuborg Festival, in Bucharest, Romania; and Tuesday, the 10th of June, the concert in “Hard Rock Café” from Bucharest won’t be held.
Our minibus is destroyed – it won’t be possible to repair it, and our instruments are damaged. According to the preliminary estimation, the total financial damage is around 50.000 Euro.
We hope that in the course of a week we will manage to get well and already on the 13th of June to start up our European summer tour in Germany and Netherlands and, most important, to perform in Bern, on the 17th of June, at the European Football Championship 2008.
