Machine Head Reveal New Album Details! 08.17.06 - 8:00AM

Bay Area metal titans Machine Head are set to enter Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA on Monday, August 21st to record their newly titled upcoming album, "The Blackening". Vocalist/Guitarist Robert Flynn will be returning to the producer's chair for the band's sixth studio album, with Mark Keaton once again handling engineering duties. Longtime Machine Head collaborator Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine) will also be returning to mix the record alongside Flynn this October in London. "Words can't really describe how excited we are to get into the studio and record this record," exclaims drummer Dave McClain. "The shows that we just played on the Sounds of the Underground tour were as amazing as we'd hoped they'd be, the raw energy and excitement level of our fans right now is just incredible, we're fired up!"

Tentative song titles for "The Blackening", set for release in early 2007, currently include "Clenching The Fists Of Dissent", "Aesthetics Of Hate", "Halo", "The Beautiful Mourning", "Now I Lay Thee Down", "Slanderous Love", "Wolves" and "A Farewell To Arms". Guitarist Phil Demmel adds, "We’re still smoothing out some rough edges but what we have, we’re extremely proud of. I'm not one to go off on ‘Heavier than blah-blah-blah!!!!’ and ‘Crushes your-these-and-those!!!!’, but I will say that fans of what we call ‘Just Fuckin' Metal’ will be digging this new material". The band have also tapped longtime Machine Head artist Paul Brown (Machine Head, Marilyn Manson, Michael Moore) to begin working on album art in the upcoming weeks.

Hoewel Machine Head heel vetrouwd en niet direct vernieuwend klinkt, zijn ze mijns inziens toch redelijk uniek.

Yep, alles wat je noemt komt enigszins in de buurt, net zoals Fear Factory en Threat Signal. Misschien Born From Pain ook.

Alsof Machine Head ergens mee te vergelijken is. Dit kent z'n gelijke niet zo is dit jaar twee keer bewezen (met het nieuwe album plus de show in de HMH)

je bedoeld die show van een ruim half uurtje waarin rob weer alle geijkte metal prietpraat uitbraaktte inplaats van gewoon nog een nummer spelen?? pfff
ot: qua intensiteit komt avdop van pantera het dichtst in de buurt(mijn inziens zelfs bruter)

hoe goed ik Machine Head ook vind:
ze zijn voor mij nog niet zo goed als het oppermachtige Pantera.

Toen ik metal begon te luisteren was Dimebag al ruim een jaar dood, en ik heb dus helemaal niks van Pantera meegekregen..
jammer? Mwah.. laten we het er op houden dat ik niet weet wat ik mis.

Ik vond de show in de HMH wel een beetje tegenvallen gezien de grote zaal, ik zou MH nog wel eens in een kleine(re) zaal willen zien spelen. Verder vond ik de show prima, en dat ie nou een beetje veel praatte ergerde ik me niet aan.

Deze staan gewoon in het voorprogramma van SLIPKNOT.

Een eersteklasse metalband gedegradeerd om in het voorprogramma te staan van zo'n kleutermetal-band als Slipknot.

Er zijn godverdomme meer mensen die alleen voor Machine Head zouden gaan dan alleen voor Slipknot.
Het is mss dat. Laten we die gasten van Machine head in ons voorprogramma steken, dan loopt de zaal mss vol.


Moest ik even kwijt.

Het slaat inderdaad ook nergens op. Een prachtige band in het voorprogramma van die kinderachtige snotterband Slipsnot. Stel je eens voor: schandalig.

Er wordt hier nogal gebashed heb ik de indruk, en het komt mij stilaan m'n strot uit. Waarom zou het zo schandalig zijn? Slipknot is nog steeds razend populair, zijn ook belangrijk geweest voor de metalscène (valt niet te ontkennen, ook al is het enkel op commercieel vlak), hebben/hadden een vernieuwend geluid en is zo ongeveer het stokpaardje van Roadrunner.

Zie je Machine Head dit al bereiken? Machine Head is verre van slecht, en hebben hun geluid ook al meerdere malen vernieuwd, maar de populariteit van Slipknot zullen ze niet halen.

Oh ja, juist, populariteit moet vermeden worden in de metalscène...

Ik schat Machine Head persoonlijk hoger in dan Slipknot, maar dat continue gezeik over dat Slipknot kleuter metal moet voorstellen, begin ik onderhand al beu te worden, ja.

Het is gewoon heel simpel een kwestie van wie de meeste fans heeft lijkt me, wie het populairste is.
In die zin is Slipknot nu eenmaal groter.

Zelf ga (inmiddels ging) ik zeer zeker voor Machine Head.

En ik denk dat Machine Head Slipknot zeker nog jaren zal overleven.

Maar waarom tourt Machine head niet alleen?

Volgend jaar komen ze weer: 4 februari! En ditmaal als headliner van "The Black Procession tour" met oa. Hatebreed en Bleeding Through.

Normally, one would be wise to avoid a plague of locusts. Prophets even warn about locusts in The Bible. However, in the Summer of 2011, metal fans and headbangers are going to happily succumb to a "Locust" in the form of a brand new track from Bay Area metal icons Machine Head.

The band, which released the back-to-back, modern classics, 2004's Through the Ashes of Empires and 2007's The Blackening, are aiming to unleash their third masterwork in a row on September 27th via longtime label Roadrunner Records. The as-yet untitled new album is being recorded at JingleTown Studios in Oakland, with frontman Robb Flynn producing, and it is sure to level anything and everything that happens upon its path.

Machine Head will prepare for the release of their new album by appearing on the main stage of the Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for key dates, while headlining the Extreme Stage for others, this summer, which kicks off this July. This is the band's second tour of duty on Mayhem, as they appeared on the festival during its inaugural run in 2008.

An advance mix of "Locust" will be on sale at iTunes on June 14th and will be included on an iTunes Mayhem digital sampler. Download cards for the digital sampler will be distributed at every date of the REDMF so fans can redeem the song after being summarily kicked in the face by Machine Head's always devastating live show.

"We've been working on the record for a few weeks now, and when the opportunity to be a part of the free Mayhem sampler came up, we did not want to pass up the chance," said Machine Head vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn. "We're so pumped for our fans to hear the new music that we're so proud of."

Flynn went a little deeper about the meaning of the song, saying, "'Locust' is a metaphor. Locusts fly in a swarm, but they can't control which direction they fly; they float on the wind, they land, cause massive destruction, and then float away on the wind to leave you in the aftermath. The song is a metaphor for a type of person that sometimes comes into your life and has a similar effect."

Musically, the song is the essence of what Machine Head have been doing for nearly two decades. "It feels like the culmination of what we've been doing for the last 17 years: power grooves, patented Machine Head harmonics, crushing guitars and dark melodies, but taken to a new level," Flynn said. "It's a natural progression from The Blackening, but different than anything on that record. In the past, when we debuted a new song, it was usually the fastest, thrashiest tune. This time we wanted to go with something just straight-up heavy."

The song is eight minutes in length, which is not unfamiliar territory for the band. Flynn even joked, "We still can't seem to write a damn song under six minutes. But Machine Head aren't writing music for the radio or MTV. This is for us. This is for the metalhead who lets music take him on a journey. This is for the metalhead for whom music is the only thing that matters, to whom music is a savior. The music fan who's going to study every detail of the artwork, go online and find the lyrics and memorize every word, and let it take them away from their fucked up life for a while. It's for the music freak, who maybe just wants to get hammered, air-guitar and sing at the top of his lungs, and act like an friggin' idiot while starting a moshpit in their living room with reckless abandon. Because that's who wrote this song, and that is the only people we care about connecting with."

Flynn finished, "We know you'll be as excited about it as we are, so Head Cases, on June 14th, check out 'Locust.'"

Machine Head rode a wave of incredible success in the '00s, one that is certain to carry them through this new decade. They were nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance - their first - for "Aesthetics of Hate" from The Blackening and were invited to tour with Metallica in the US and Europe and also joined Slipknot, Slayer and Megadeth on tour dates. They have also headlined some of the biggest festivals in Europe, performing as a part of Wacken (Germany) and Download (England.)

"Locust" is a true metal anthem from these metal torchbearers, and it's erected upon the band's signature, crunchy guitar tone, pummeling riffage, a thunderstorm of percussion and Flynn's militaristic barks. "Locust" is one of those cathartic, "gets the red out" songs that will incite moshpits across the globe and cause the listener to be purged of all their anger (and exhausted from rocking the hell out) once the last note fades out.

Prepare to suffer unto the "Locust" on June 14th and beyond.

Er is een nieuwe track vrij gegeven. Klinkt niet verkeerd. Zo op het eerste gehoor lijken ze verder te gaan waar Bloodstone & Diamonds ophield.

Machine Head houdt ermee op, maar ze werken nog wel hun tour af. Jammer dat ik ze niet in de 013 gezien heb. En in België zijn ze al helemaal niet te bespeuren geweest.

Nieuwe track. Ik weet niet zo goed wat ik moet vinden. Er zit gelukkig weer wat pit in. Het is beter dan alles op catharsis. Maar ik kan niks met dat stuk-geproduceerde 13 in dozijn drum geluid. En tekstueel is het ook niet heel sterk. Ik ben benieuwd naar meer nummers

''Niet heel sterk'' is nog een understatement, de tekst van Do or Die is echt een gedrocht. Ik heb niet snel dat ik op de tekst focus, maar als het zo slecht is valt het niet te negeren. Je krijgt er gewoon bijna plaatsvervangende schaamte van. Niet vergeten: Flynn is 52 jaar oud. 52, en dan zulke teksten schrijven.

Eens. Maar Flynn heeft er sowieso een handje van om overal direct op te reageren als de misdeelde onschuld. Afgelopen maandag wel de live stream van het concert in Bochum gevolgd, dat was wel Ff ouderwets beuken hoor. De nieuwe MH staat wel als een huis!

Klonk goed, inderdaad! Flynn heeft met Vogg van Decapitated een erg goede gitarist in huis gehaald.

Wederom nieuw werk van Machine Head. Dit was vroeger voor mij één van DE bands. Helaas is door de wisselvalligheid van de laatste platen mijn interesse wat verwaterd. Tot ik dit nummer hoorde, potdomme zeg, dit klinkt weer erg goed hoor. Do or Die is een matig nummer, dus wisselvalligheid is nog zeker aan de hand. Of ik net zo’n fan zal worden als vroeger moet blijken, maar ik wordt wel nieuwsgierig naar meer!

Edit: ik zag later pas dat dit nummer al 4 maand op internet staat...

De nieuwe single Become the Firestorm is weer ouderwets lekker, van dik hout etc.. Maar ja, zit er nog iemand te wachten op Rob Flyn's MH? ( voorzichtig handje opstekend)
