mogwai_-_steve_gullick.jpgDe Schotste postrockers van Mogwai werken op hun gloednieuwe ep samen met psychedelica-legende Roky Erickson. De zanger, bekend van onder andere The 13the Floor Elevators is als gastzanger te horen op het nummer Devil Rides. De ep getiteld Batcat verschijnt in september, waarna er in dezelfde maand een gloednieuw album verschijnt, getiteld The Hawk Is Howling.

Mogwai is er maar druk mee; debuutalbum Young Team is deze week verschenen als speciale jubileum-editie met een bonus-cd of als luxe, gelimiteerde 4lp-boxset.

Mogwai Cancels Tour, Drummer's Pacemaker Breaks

Shortly after Scottish noise god Mogwai wrapped its All Tomorrow's Parties New York set on Sunday (and Listening Post published its interview with guitarist Stuart Brathwaite), drummer Martin Bulloch was rushed to the emergency room to treat his cyborg heart. Although he was eventually discharged, the master time-keeper was cautioned to fly back to Scotland immediately, visit his cardiologist, and repair his pacemaker.

"I can honestly say it would be almost impossible for me to carry on at this point," Bulloch explained on Mogwai's official site, "as my pacemaker has broken skin and the surrounding area has become infected."

Bulloch added that his pacemaker has been bothering him for the entire tour, but that he tried to tough it out. But over the weekend, that option was no longer an option. He has auctioned off his pacemakers in the past, and donated the proceeds to the British Heart Foundation. Looks like he might have one more to auction off.

Mogwai's 2008 dates in Japan and Europe will go ahead as planned, while the remaining American dates will be rescheduled for 2009. Bulloch is one of the best drummers in the game today, so it's great to hear that not only is he out of danger, but that Mogwai will soldier ahead next year with Bulloch pounding on the kit.

Don't miss it, especially if you have a taste for loud, gorgeous noise.

Op die 2e staat nog een alternatieve versie van X-Mas Steps die niet zoveel anders is dan de albumversie. Maar voor Small Children in the Background moet je hem toch wel hebben; één van de beste Mogwai-nummers.

De nieuwere releases ken ik verder niet zo goed, na 2003 was ik wel een beetje klaar met Mogwai. De latere albums vind ik ook niet zoveel meer aan.

Mogwai to release 'interesting' new album in February 2011

The group are set to work on the follow-up to 2008's 'The Hawk Is Howling'

Mogwai have revealed that they will release their next album in February 2011.

Set to be the group's seventh studio album, guitarist Stuart Braithwaite has admitted the as-yet untitled LP will be "interesting".

"I think it's going to be an interesting record," Braithwaite told SpinnerMusic.co.uk. "Quite often, when we go into the studio our songs are nearly written. There's almost a tone of a song, but as the whole band, you haven't realized where it's going."

As previously reported, the band will be working on the follow-up to 2008's 'The Hawk Is Howling' with drummer Paul Savage, who also worked on the group's 1997 debut 'Mogwai Young Team'.

Meanwhile, the Scottish five-piece will release their first live album, 'Special Moves' on August 23.

Mogwai will embark on a UK tour in February 2011.

Bij Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will (2011):

Ik heb ze dinsdag gezien in Paradiso. Geweldig concert. Wel heel veel nieuw materiaal dit keer, maar het nieuwe album doet het dan ook wel goed live! Toch blij dat de afsloten met Mogwai fear Satan .

Ze waren in goede vorm gisterenavond in AB Brussel.
Barry Burns nam achteraf nog effe de moeite om een klap'ken te doen met de schare fans nog aanwezig na afloop van het concert.

Het laatste nummer was meer dan uitstekend, de traditionele noise end set bevatte deze keer zelfs enig ritme, was very zidane black spider2'ish welke ruim een kwartier aansleepte.
Had jammer genoeg de zoom niet bij had weer wat extra mogwai sound geweest voor de collectie.

Concert werd gisteren trouwens gestreamd vanuit Brussel.

De eerste single met zang vind ik altijd wat minder. Liever Mogwai instrumentaal. Maar prima single hoor.

Onlangs naar een documentaire over Mogwai geweest in Tilburg.
De première voor Nederland. Er zaten hooguit 30 mensen in de zaal.
