Opus de Soul Top 10: week 3
Welkom bij week 3 van de top10 van Opus de Soul. Stilletjes aan druppelen er wat albums binnen in 2015. Wat te denken van de nieuwe plaat van Mark Ronson? Of juist de eerste LP van Benjamin Clementine? Hebben deze releases invloed op de top10 van deze week? We gaan het zien.
Aangezien er deze week drie nieuwe binnenkomers zijn moeten er natuurlijk ook weer drie afvallen. Deze week is dat aan LION BABY en Ntjam Rosie direct al na hun eerste week. Otis Brown III heeft het samen met Bilal twee weken vol gehouden, maar ook voor hen is het doek gevallen.
Op 10 vinden we de song die deze week nog een Golden Globe won als score van de film Selma. Daarboven staat de eerste nieuwe binnenkomer van Mark Ronson. Een single die even moest vallen, maar het kwartje is aldaar. Nog een plaatsje hoger staat de volgende nieuwe binnenkomer voor iedereen die van een feestje houdt. Opvallend genoeg stijgt Bruno Mars een plaatsje, van 8 naar 7 en staat de laatste nieuwe binnenkomer op 6. Oudgediende en de reeds overleden “Pops” Staples krijgt de eer die hij verdient via zijn dochter. Zij bracht een op de plank liggende plaat uit waar onder andere dit prachtige nummer op staat.
In de top 5 zijn de nummers hetzelfde gebleven, alleen is de volgorde veranderd. De Belgische Trixie is honkvast, maar the Ephemerals moeten twee plaatsen prijs geven. Deze moeten ze overlaten aan Sonny Knigth en Benjamin Clementine. De nummer één is voor de derde keer in successie die aanstekelijke hit van D’Angelo.

Opus de Soul Top 10: week 4

Het is alweer week 4 van 2015. Januari gaat plaats maken voor februari, maar eerst nog een top10.
Deze week heb ik twee nieuwe binnenkomers voor jullie. De eerste en hoogste is van Benjamin Clementine. Zijn langverwachte debuutalbum is zo hard bij mij binnen gekomen dat ik wel een extra nummer van hem moest nomineren. De keuze was groot, maar is gevallen op het intense en prachtig opgebouwde Condolence.
Die andere nieuwe binnenkomer is van de Britse dames Kitty, Daisy & Lewis. Voor de liefhebbers van het mengen van R&B en roots is dit nummer en het album een musthave.
Verder opvallend wellicht is de stijgen van de oude “Pops” Staples. Zijn postuumalbum komt eraan, onder de regie van dochter Mavis.
We verliezen ook twee nummers. Dat zijn die van John Legend en Common en de song van Grand Hammond. Dat maakt dit de nieuwe top 10, van week 4:

Opus de Soul Top 10: week 6

Welkom terug bij de top10 van Opus de Soul. Zoals elke week heb ik weer een nieuwe hitlijst voor je. Na een weekje vakantie en daarmee geen veranderingen kan ik jullie deze week op maar liefst zes nieuwe noteringen trakteren. Daarnaast hebben wij eindelijk ook eens een nieuwe nummer 1!!! Vijf weken heeft Sugah Daddy het vol gehouden, maar die glorietocht is deze week tot een einde gekomen.

Naast zes nieuwkomers heb je automatisch ook zes afvallers. Wij nemen in week 6 afscheid van twee nummers van Mark Ronson, één nummer van Benjamin Clementine, Trixie Whitley, Sonny Knight en Kitty, Daisy & Lewis.

Tussen de nieuwe binnenkomers is er ook ruimte voor Nederlands glorie. Ik besteed graag aandacht aan de nieuwe Nederlandse releases op soul en R&B vlak. Als ze dan ook nog eens goede songs maken dan ben ik helemaal happy. Zo zien we op nummer 10 Janne Schra terugkomen met de eerste single van haar aankomende album. Ook solo gaat het haar niet voor de wind. Een vrolijke moodsetter. Net een plaatsje daar boven en ook nieuw staat Paolo Nutini. Het album is al even uit, maar Iron Sky springt er tegenwoordig echt boven uit. Als we dan de weg naar boven vervolgen zien we dat the Ephemerals op het vinkentouw zitten met een stevige daling. Daarboven vinden we de even zo vintage sound van Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. Als zij met iets nieuws komen is het bijna altijd raak. Dat bewijzen ze ook weer met Little Boys With Shiny Toys.
Om maar niet te spreken van de prachtige (zowel qua stem als uiterlijk) zangeres Andreya Triana. Veel aanstekelijker dan Gold heb ik ze de laatste dagen niet gehoord. De top5 gaan we dan in met “Pops” en op nummer 4 het beste wat Nederland op dit moment voorbrengt op soul/R&B vlak… Secret Rendezvous. Heb deze week nu een aantal dagen op repeat staan en elke keer ontdek ik er weer nieuwe lagen in. Een prachtige song, maar niet de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer. Die eer is weggelegd voor Leon Bridges. Pas net ontdekt eigenlijk en ik ben al om. Ik weet nog niet zoveel van deze man, maar hij weet soul en gospel prachtig te combineren.
Op naar die nieuwe nummer één dan. D’Angelo is dat niet meer en daarom terug te vinden op de tweede stek. Nee, deze week is de gouden medaille voor Benjamin Clementine. Zijn nieuwe plaat is helemaal fantastisch en Condolence is daarin één van mijn absolute favorieten. Genieten geblazen!

Opus de Soul Top 10: week 8

En daar zijn we weer met onze wekelijkse top10! De releases komen mondjesmaat steeds meer binnen druppelen. Dat resultaat eigenlijk ook meteen in de twee nieuwe binnenkomers.
We nemen afscheid van de sympathieke Janne Schra en “Pops” Staples en verwelkomen in eerste instantie Ibeyi. De hebben me nog niet zo kunnen bekoren dat ze een plek in de top10 krijgen, maar ik heb deze week hun plaat een paar keer beluisterd en er is toch wel één nummer dat er constant bovenuit springt. Dat is Stranger/Lover.
Verder is nieuw binnen Don’t Wanna Fight van Alabama Shakes. Met die leadzangeres moet je dus echt geen ruzie krijgen. Wat een pit in haar stem zeg! En wat een groove in het gehele nummer. Stilzitten is onmogelijk.
De andere acht wisselen hier en daar wat van plek. Zo is de top3 iets anders gezien Andreya Triana met stip stijgt. D’Angelo blijft ondertussen halsstarrig vastklampen aan de top10 en maakt de achtste week ook vol. De nummer één is wederom voor Benjamin Clementine.
