1956 was het jaar waarin Elvis Presley de wereld schokte.
Nooit zou popmuziek nog hetzelfde zijn ... rebels en uitdagend,
zoals de naoorlogse jeugd zich zou manifesteren ...

Sommigen zweren bij Rock around the Clock als mijlpaal.
Bill Haley & His Comets brachten pit in de big band swing.
Drums en gitaren ... later speelde ook de bas mee.

Sommige artietsen bleven hun klavier trouw, al zouden
pianorockers als Fats Domino, Little Richard en Jerry Lee Lewis
definitief naar het tweede plan verschuiven door het gitaarspel
van legendes als Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly en vooral Chuck Berry.

Omdat vele US hits uit 1955 pas in 1956 Europa zouden bereiken,
neem ik in dit overzicht ook een groot deel US en UK hits op uit 1955.
Startpunt daarbij is precies Rock around the Clock (juli 1955).
