Zo.. niet slecht toch? Die laatste twee zitten zo op de 4*. Ik ken namelijk nog niet zoveel Jazz.

Ik ben ook verre van een jazzkenner (heb op zo'n 30 jazz-albums gestemd, waaronder bv. op Motorpsycho's Phanerothyme, wat ik zelf niet echt onder jazz reken, en verder voornamelijk op geijkte klassiekers). Maar goed, een top 10 maken is leuk; wie weet hoe ie er over een paar jaar uit ziet...

kortom ik ben een grote Chet Baker fan



Ik kan (natuurlijk) ook wel andere jazzplaten van trompettisten als Roy Hardgrove, Wynton Masalis,Chris Botti en Miles Davis, maar Chets stem en zijn geluid uit zijn flugelhorn/trompet raakt me (veruit) het meest.
Saxofonisten als John Coltrane raken me veel minder net als jazz pianisten.
Van de moderne smooth jazz moet " ik helemaal niets hebben "

Voor de niet Chet Baker kenners..... raad ik de verzamelplaten Chet Baker sings en Chet Baker plays aan.Of de compilatie van zijn werk met de pianist Russ Freeman op Pacific jazz(My Funny Valentine).

Van de latere Chet zijn Live In Toko en The Last Great Concert absolute aanraders.
Dat zijn mooie albums om meetebeginnen.

Er zijn mischien wel honderden Chet Baker albums op de markt, vooral compelaties (na zijn dood), maar op chetbakertribute staan onder Discography zijn beste albums gerangschikt die tijdens zijn leven zijn gemaakt.

Het is dus even uitkijken als je een Chet Baker plaat koopt, zit veel niet belangrijk of niet goed werk tussen, maar er zijn ook ontelbare parrels met zijn werk op cd.

Jeroen van der Valk heeft een mooie biographie(boek) geschreven met een uitgebreide (met zijn belangrijkste werk)discography als bijlage.
Chet Baker heeft platen gemaakt van 1953 t/m 1988.Tegenwoordig is alles wel op cd te verkrijgen.

The Last Concert is een prachtige live-registratie die 2 weken voor zijn dodelijke ongelukkige val is gemaakt in Duitsland met een orkest.(geen zelfmoord of iets anders) onder invloed van drugs , uit een raam,in een Amsterdams hotel op 13 mei 1988.Hij viel ongeluk van 2 hoog op een paaltje, er is nog een plaquette aanwezig bij het hotel).
