Om te antwoorden op de vraag van RobbyT "Waarom China Girl":

Wel, eerst vond ik niets aan dit nummer, snapte niet waarom dit ooit bekend was geworden. Beetje platjes, niets opmerkelijk aan...
Vele luisterbeurten later begon ik eindelijk wat grip te krijgen op het nummer (typisch Bowie, enorm veel groeinummers en -platen wat mij betreft), en nog eens vele luisterbeurten later werd het mijn favoriete Bowie nummer.
Waarom? Ik vind het gewoon een perfect voorbeeld van een intelligente popsong, waar werkelijk alles klopt. Zoals wel vaker bij Bowie zijn alle instrumenten tot in de perfectie op elkaar ingesteld, wat zich pas openbaart na een aantal beluisteringen. Eenvoudige structuur en toch voldoende variatie. De luisteraar direct meenmen via een herkenbaar melodietje in de intro. Een tekst die simpel is en toch ietwat apart en grappig (die shhhhh!). Fan-tas-tische baslijn die echt perfect getimed zit. Mooi ingehouden gitaarsolo's die naadloos in het nummer zijn verwerkt. En Bowie's karakteristieke stemgeluid komt volledig tot zijn recht. Goede muziek kan soms zo eenvoudig zijn.

Ik raak dit nummer in ieder geval nooit beu. Heb ooit tijdens het studeren dit nummer meer dan 5 uur op repeat gehad, zonder me ook maar een moment te enerveren. Gaan slapen, en volgende dag meteen terug opgezet

Dat is echt typisch Bowie, dat je zo'n lange post kan wijden aan één nummer. Mooie analyse en zeer waar ook!
