Welkom allen bij het jaar 1988! De gebeurtenis in Nederland die bijna alles overschaduwt is het EK in Duitsland. Spontane volksfeesten barsten los wanneer Nederland Duitsland verslaat in de halve finale. De oorlog en het WK 1974 zijn gewroken. De gewonnen finale tegen de Sovjet-Unie is een mooi toetje. De EK-spelers worden als helden ontvangen. In politiek Den Haag stijgt de al jaren slepende Paspoortaffaire naar een climax.
