Een leuke anekdote: mijn liefde (en obsessie) voor aller tijden lijstjes is ooit veroorzaakt door Give Up Your Guns van The Buoys. Toen ik nog een klein wolfje was (jaar of 9) was ik fanatiek bezig om nummers op te nemen van de radio op tape. Op een gegeven moment hoorde ik Give Up Your Guns voorbij komen en dat vond ik het mooiste nummer wat ik ooit had gehoord. Helaas was ik slechts in staat om de laatste 50 seconden op te nemen.

Ik liet het aan mijn pa horen en die kende het wel maar had het helaas ook niet, wel vertelde hij mij toen dat ze bij Veronica een Top 100 Aller Tijden gingen uitzenden en dat hij dacht dat het nummer daar misschien wel in zou kunnen staan. Toen hebben we bij de buurvrouw de Veronicagids geleend waar de lijst in stond en warempel het stond er nog in ook, op nummer 98(!). Dit was in 1988.

Die vrijdag (of zaterdag?) zat ik vanaf 8 uur 's ochtends klaar met 5 nieuwe cassettebandjes in de aanslag om Give Up Your Guns en zoveel mogelijk andere nummers op te nemen. Dat was werkelijk waar een van de beste dagen die ik me uit mijn jeugd kan herinneren.

En daarna is het nooit meer goedgekomen...

Give Up Your Guns vind ik overigens nog steeds fabelachtig goed, ondanks dat ik het honderden keren heb gehoord inmiddels. Mijn oudere zus heeft destijds zelfs voor mij de songtekst nog uitgeschreven en ik kon het nummer toen van begin tot eind meezingen zonder dat ik wist waar het over ging.

vrijdag! - meen ik toch - ergens in april meestal dacht ik.

Ik heb die Top 100 Aller Tijden ook vaak m'n cassette recordertje klaar gezet, maar niet meer in 88. Wel heel herkenbaar.
Ik heb alleen The Buoys dan weer geen punten gegeven in de ladder...
