Sterke ladder ditmaal! Het jazznummer beviel me boven verwachting. Ik zie mijzelf niet als een liefhebber van jazzmuziek, en ik ben niets eens bekend met de klassiekers binnen dit genre, maar ik merk dat ik de jazznummers toch vaak punten geef. Misschien toch maar eens een plaatje proberen dan..

Ah, dan heb ik je opmerking verkeerd begrepen. Ik dacht dat je het in het algemeen over het nummer had, maar je bedoelde dus specifiek deze versie. Het bevat inderdaad de nodige grappige en vreemde geluidjes. Hier een meer 'normale' versie van het nummer (zoals dat tegenwoordig bekend is met het steeds een toon hoger zingen als een nieuw bot gekoppeld wordt).

Dit is overigens de oudste opgenomen versie van het nummer. De tekst is niet makkelijk te volgen, maar wel flink anders dan bij latere versies van het nummer.

De versie van The Singing Detective is inderdaad een geweldige parodie op het nummer.
Ik heb me nooit verder verdiept in het boek van Ezechiël. Ik was er eigenlijk vanuit gegaan dat in het specifieke hoofdstuk de anatomie van het menselijk lichaam werd uitgelegd voor de 'gewone mens', zoals er wel meer wereldse regels voor de mens in de bijbel worden genoemd.
Ik ben het met je eens dat als je de tekst van Ezechiël leest, het nummer daar weinig mee te maken heeft en dat het spirituele van die tekst in het nummer helemaal weggelaten is.

Ik pas het jaartal voor Moody's Mood for Love aan naar 1954 op grond van Wikipedia, dat meldt: "James Moody created his improvised solo in 1949 on a visit to Sweden. Moody’s version clearly shows the influence of Charlie Parker.[2] In 1952, jazz singer Eddie Jefferson wrote lyrics to this improvisation by Moody, a practice known as vocalese.[3] This particular arrangement of the song did not come to be known by its now common title of "Moody's Mood for Love" until King Pleasure released a very popular vocal version in 1954."
