The Libertines reunite at Hackney gig
Pete and Carl play 13 Libertines classics
9 hours ago
The Libertines reunited tonight (April 12) onstage in London.
Pete Doherty and Carl Barat played 13 songs at the second of Doherty's An Evening With Pete Doherty gigs at the Hackney Empire.
During the second half of the show Doherty teased the audience by saying: "You've been waiting for this moment. Ladies and gentlemen Mr Carlos Barat...only joking! What do you expect for 25 quid?"
Then Barat bounded on stage, wearing a Dior Homme suit and a trilby.
The duo played 13 Libertines classics including 'What Katie Did' and 'Time For Heroes'.
They whispered and hugged each other in between songs, while during their cover of Mama Cass With The Mamas & The Papas' 'Dream A Little Dream' Barat performed a little tap dancing routine.
The duo played song 'Albion', with Barat joining in on vocals. The song was originally considered for The Libertines but was included on Babyshambles album 'Down In Albion'.
Returning for a quick encore, the pair played 'The Delaney', left the stage and then re-emerged triumphantly holding each others hands in the air.
However the reunion continued outside the back of the venue.
After the show fans shot round to the venue's dressing room windows and managed to convince the pair to reappear.
Appropriately enough Doherty and Barat performed an impromptu version of 'Can't Stand Me Now' for the mass of fans, while Doherty's girlfriend Kate Moss watched on.
Prior to Barat taking to the stage for the reunion, Doherty played a number of songs solo and with guest Alan Wass and Bert Jansch including 'Killamangiro' and 'Cyclops'.
The reunited Libertines played:
'What A Waster'
'Death On The Stairs'
'The Good Old Days'
'What Katie Did'
'Dilly Boys'
'Seven Deadly Sins'
'France'
'Tell The King'
'Don't Look Back Into The Sun'
'Dream A Little Dream Of Me'
'Time For Heroes'
'Albion'
'The Delaney'

LIBERTINES DUO REUNITE ON STAGE
Rock singer Pete Doherty has performed live with former bandmate Carl Barat for the first time since their group The Libertines split up in 2004.
The pair played 13 songs together during Doherty's gig at London's Hackney Empire on Thursday.
NME reporter Priya Elan described their set as a "momentous occasion".
But Barat's spokesman Tony Linkin said it was just a one-off: "They just got together for the night. There are no plans for anything more than that."
The pair were busy with their own bands, he added. "Babyshambles are doing their own thing and Dirty Pretty Things are doing what they are doing."
Recently, however, Barat said: "We're not doing very different things but at some point I'd be happy to work with Pete. Our relationship hasn't really faded away."
The pair whispered and hugged each other in between songs, and Doherty occasionally helped Barat out with the words.
"There was a very strong sense that they are still friends and that will never go away. I think that is what some of the fans tapped into," he said.
"It didn't feel cynical like a lot of reunions do, it felt quite natural."
Speaking to BBC Radio 1, Doherty fan Daisy said: "They seemed really happy - they were smiling and hugging each other."
After the gig, Doherty and Barat went backstage to play an acoustic set with the windows open.
Hundreds of fans stood outside listening, which Mr Elan claimed was very much "in the spirit of the band".
The couple's fall-out has never been fully explained, although Doherty was jailed in 2003 after breaking into Barat's flat and stealing some of his belongings.
On his release from prison, he rejoined the band, but the reconciliation was fraught with arguments and continuing drug problems.
The group played their final gig at the end of 2004 in Paris.

Godzijdank was Roger Sargent er die avond om ons Pete&Carl foto's!

Echt, dit maakt me heel gelukkig!

Geweldig nieuws.
Ergens krijg je wel zo'n 'hoe lang houdt het stand'-gevoel, maar toch. Die twee raken nooit van elkaar af, godzijdank.

Prachtig he.
Als je die foto's ziet, kijk eens hoe ze daar staan te glunderen.
Doet me trouwens altijd denken aan wat Roger Sargent eens zei:Roger Sargent, close friend and photographer of the band, described their relationship as like "first love, and all the jealousy and obsessiveness that comes with that" - adding "I think there's, y'know, obsession and jealousy on both of their sides. They bitch about each other to each other or to other people. They have a bond, intellectually and spiritually, like nothing I've ever seen ... but sometimes, you know, you just think, god, why don't you just get a room?!"[
