Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
’cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? ooh!
Some say it’s just a part of it:
We’ve got to fulfil de book.
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
’cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
’cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,

thunder in the air
before a storm that rips
anger in my heart
a finger on my lips
you showed me that silence
that haunts this troubled world
you showed me that silence
can speak louder than words
words end in disaster
on the rocks, in pieces
i know something lives on there
but i can't say what it is
you showed me that silence
that haunts this troubled world
you showed me that silence
can speak louder than words
The Sound in Silent Air, opgedragen aan Ian Curtis. Achttien jaar later ging Adrian Borland hem achterna. Een grote muzikale held van me!

28. Sinead O'Connor - Troy
Do you want me?
Should I leave?
I know you're always telling me, that you love me
just sometimes I wonder if I should believe
Oh, I love you, God I love you
I'd kill a dragon for you
I’ll die
But I will rise, I will return
The Phoenix from the flame, I have learned
I will rise, and you'll see me return
Being what I am, there is no other Troy
for me to burn ....

Lyrics van Life takes more than that
All dem words it is just hypocricy
Personality that is just psychology
Shame and pride things of humanity
But the soul is infinity
What is good for you is terrible for me
Don't want to live the mental slavery
I am a piece in reality
I come to liberate and set the captives free

Today I’ll play the part of non-parent
Not make a hundred rules
For you to know about yourself
Not lie and make you believe
What’s evil is making love
And making friends
And meeting God you’re own way
The right way
Now I’ll play a public servant
To serve and protect
By the law and the state
I’d bust the punks
That rape steal and murder
And leave you be
If you crossed me
I’d shake your hand like a man
Not a god
Now I’ll play a man learning priesthood
Who’s about to take the ultimate test in life
I’d question things because I am human
And call no one my father who’s no closer that a stranger
I won’t listen

Young men, soldiers, nineteen fourteen
Marching through countries they'd never seen
Virgins with rifles, a game of charades
All for a children's crusade
Pawns in the game are not victims of chance
Strewn on the fields of Belgium and France
Poppies for young men, death's bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed
The children of England would never be slaves
They're trapped on the wire and dying in waves
The flower of England face down in the mud
And stained in the blood of a whole generation
Corpulent generals safe behind lines
History's lessons drowned in red wine
Poppies for young men, death's bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed
All for a children's crusade
The children of England would never be slaves
They're trapped on the wire and dying in waves
The flower of England face down in the mud
And stained in the blood of a whole generation
Midnight in Soho nineteen eighty four
Fixing in doorways, opium slaves
Poppies for young men, such bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed
All for a children's crusade
31. Sting - Children Crusade

33. Manic Street Preachers - You're Tender and You're Tired
You're so fragile tonight
Been up hurting all night
It's not trivial like they think
Yes you're desperate and you're hurt
Thought about it so many times
Too afraid to open your eyes
To see the sadness that's inside
Just sit back and stop time
You're tender and you're tired
You can't be bothered to decide
Whether you live or die
Or just forget about your life
But it's too late to be real
No time to be strong enough
Just time to leave it all behind
Memory has become pain
Rebuild the void with flowers
Sad eyed destruction built around sand and sea
Yes you can build yourself
Build yourself around me, yourself around me
You're tender and you're tired
You can't be bothered to decide
Whether you live or die
Or just forget about your life
You're tender and you're tired
You can't be bothered to decide
Whether you live or die
Drift away and die
Never say goodbye
Drift away and die

35. Neil Young - Philadelhpia
Sometimes I think that I know
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right.
I've got my friends in the world,
I had my friends
When we were boys and girls
And the secrets came unfurled.
City of brotherly love
Place I call home
Don't turn your back on me
I don't want to be alone
Love lasts forever.
Someone is talking to me,
Calling my name
Tell me I'm not to blame
I won't be ashamed of love.
Philadelphia,
City of brotherly love.
Brotherly love.
Sometimes I think that I know
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right.
Philadelphia.
36. Bruce Springsteen - Streets of philadelphia
I was bruised and battered and I couldn't tell
what I felt
I was unrecognizable to myself
Saw my reflection in a window I didn't know
my own face
Oh brother are you gonna leave me
wasting away
On the streets of Philadelphia
I walked the avenue till my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Just as black and whispering as the rain
On the streets of Philadelphia
Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
I walked a thousand miles
just to slip this skin
The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake
I can feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss
or will we leave each other alone like this
On the streets of Philadelphia
Sometimes I think that I know
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right.

Tori Amos. "Northern Lad"
Had a northern lad
Well not exactly had
He moved like the sunset
God who painted that
First he love my accent
How his knees could bend
I thought we'd be ok
Me and my molasses
But I feel someting is wrong
But I fell this cake just isn't done
Don't say that you Don't
And if you could see me now
Said if you could see me now
Girls you've got to know
When it's time to turn the page
When you're only wet
Because of the rain
He don't show much these days
It's gets so fucking cold
I loved his secret places
But I can't go anymore
"you change like sugar cane"
Says me northern lad
I guess you go too far
When pianos try to be guitars
I feel the west in you
And I feel it falling apart too
Don't say that you Don't
And if you could see me now
Said if you could see me now
Girls you've got to know
When it's time to turn the page

38. Aquabats - Chemical Bomb
I was at the supermarket
Watching people cut in line
I started thinking about human nature
What would you do
if there was no more food?
My mind began to wander
About greed and hunger
And just how many other countries
Are getting ready for another war
But the sun was shining
And everything seemed fine
So count me in
I'll see you on the other side
Chemical bomb
Chemical bomb
Eyes melt, Skin explodes
Everybody's dead
It won't be long
It won't be long
People gonna run around
Losing their heads
A river of blood
Who's gonna live?
The earth is tired of human kind
And I think this world
Is gonna wash up in Hell
La la la la la
La la la la la
La lala la la la la
Then I had another vision
In the crowded grocery store
I saw the Pale Rider on his horse
Decapitating people in the parking lot
And all the shoppers were beasts
What could I do to hide?
Back in this world of humankind
I think we've already lost our minds
...
maybe.... maybe... maybe...

It's over
You don't need to tell me
I hope you're with someone who makes you
feel safe in your sleeping tonight
I won't kill myself, trying to stay in your life
I got no distance left to run
When you see me
Please turn your back and walk away
I don't want to see you
Cos i know the dreams that you keep is wearing me
When your coming down, think of me here
I got no distance left to run
It's over, I knew it would end this way
I hope you're with someone who makes you feel
That this life is the night
And it settles down, stays around
Spends more time with you
I got no distance left to run
Blur - No Distance Left to Run.

40. Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy Jr.
His father was a drinker
And his mother cried in bed
Folding John Wayne's T-shirts
When the swingset hit his head
The neighbors they adored him
For his humor and his conversation
Look underneath the house there
Find the few living things
Rotting fast in their sleep of the dead
Twenty-seven people, even more
They were boys with their cars, summer jobs
Oh my God
Are you one of them?
He dressed up like a clown for them
With his face paint white and red
And on his best behavior
In a dark room on the bed he kissed them all
He'd kill ten thousand people
With a sleight of his hand
Running far, running fast to the dead
He took of all their clothes for them
He put a cloth on their lips
Quiet hands, quiet kiss
On the mouth
And in my best behavior
I am really just like him
Look beneath the floorboards
For the secrets I have hid
His father was a drinker
And his mother cried in bed
Folding John Wayne's T-shirts
When the swingset hit his head
The neighbors they adored him
For his humor and his conversation
Look underneath the house there
Find the few living things
Rotting fast in their sleep of the dead

41. Ramses Shaffy - Laat me
Ik ben misschien te laat geboren,
of in een land met ander licht
Ik voel me altijd wat verloren,
al toont de spiegel mijn gezicht
Ik ken de kroegen en kathedralen,
van Amsterdam tot aan Maastricht
Toch zal ik elke dag verdwalen,
dat houdt de zaak in evenwicht
Laat me, laat me, laat me gewoon mijn gang maar gaan
Laat me, laat me,
Ik heb het altijd zo gedaan
Ik zal m'n vrienden niet vergeten,
want wie mij lief is blijft me lief.
En waar ze wonen moest ik weten,
maar ik verloor hun laatste brief.
Ik zal ze heus wel weer ontmoeten,
misschien vandaag of volgend jaar
Laat me, laat me, laat me gewoon mijn gang maar gaan
Laat me, laat me, k heb het altijd zo gedaan
Laat me, laatme, laat me...

Laat me, laat me, laat me gewoon mijn gang maar gaan
Laat me, laat me, k heb het altijd zo gedaan
Laat me, laatme, laat me...

I heard this line one time 'bout tryin' to save the world
But have you ever tried to save yourself
A wide-eyed suicide drive
Remains a fake
As if you'd ever
Ever go and make the same mistake
Strung out as the night comes crawlin'
Your halo of thorns is fallin'
Somebody somewhere is screamin' out the words
But do they ever really ease the pain
I guess what I'm trying to say
Is whose life is it anyway because livin'
Living is the best revenge
You can play
This fall from grace
I see your face
It's over...

43. Bob Dylan - A hard rain's a-gonna fall
Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
And where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin',
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world,
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin',
Heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin',
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin',
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter,
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony,
I met a white man who walked a black dog,
I met a young woman whose body was burning,
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow,
I met one man who was wounded in love,
I met another man who was wounded with hatred,
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and speak it and think it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Tranen.
ps.

44. Prince - Lady Cab Driver
Taxi! Taxi!
Lady cab driver, can U take me for a ride
Don't know where I'm going
cause I don't know where I've been
So put you're foot on the gas - let's drive
Lady, don't ask questions, I
promise I'll tell U no lies
Trouble winds-a-blowin I'm
growing cold
Get me outta here I feel like
I'm gonna die
Lady cab driver, roll up our
window fast
Lately trouble winds are
blowin hard and
I don't know if I can last
Lady I'm so lonely I know
it's not the way to be
I don't want isolation but the
air it makes me cold
Drive it baby drive it, drive
this demon out of me
Take me to your mansion
honey, let's go
everywhere
Help me girl I'm drowin
mase confusion in my head
Will U accept my tears to pay
the fare
Lady cab driver, roll up your
window fast
Lately trouble winds are
blowin hard and
I don't know if I can last
This is for the cab U have to drive for no money at all
This is for why I wasn't born like my brother, handsome and tall
This is for politicians, who're bored and believe in war
This-- Yeah, that's for me, that's who that's one's for
This is for discrimination and egoists who think supreme
And this one for whoever taught U how to kiss in designerjeans
That's one's for --- That's one for -- For U have to live
This one's for the rich, not all of them, just the greedy --
The one's that don't know how to give
This one's for Yosemite Sam and the tourists at Disneyland
And this one -- Ooh! Yeah -- That's the one
That's for -- That's for -- The creator of man
This is for the sun, the moon, the stars, the tourists at Disneyland
This is for the ocean, the sea, the shore
This is for the women, so beautifully complex
This one's for love without sex
This one's for the wind that blows no matter how fast or slow
Not knowing where I'm going
This galaxy's better than not having a place to go
And now I know (I know)
Taxi! Taxi!

45. Björk - New World
Train whistles, sweet clementine
Blueberries, dancers in line
Oooh, sweet clementine
Oooh, dancers in line
Oooh
If living is seeing
I'm holding my breath
In wonder, I wonder
what happens next?
A new world, a new day to see
I'm soflty walking on air
halfway to heaven from here
Sunlight unfolds in my hair
Oooh, walking on air
Oooh, to heaven from here
If living is seeing
I'm holding my breath
In wonder, I wonder
what happens next?
A new world, a new day to see
To see...
Train whistles, sweet clementine
Blueberries, dancers in line
Oooh, sweet clementine
Oooh, dancers in line

46. Riverside - Out of Myself
I don't feel quite myself
I think I'm losing heart
I'm sick and tired of all those words
Voices in my head
I think I have become
Another suffering of my soul
You ask me how I'm feeling
Looking in my eyes
Hearing only what you want to hear
I'm holding my breath
Holding my time
I wish you knew how I was hurt
I'm really scared of getting lost in real life
So please stop asking me for more
Let me get this straight
Let me get this right
I need a place to be alone
I need a place to be
I need a breath to take
Don't wanna scream with my mouth shut
It leads us nowhere
Stop looking at me like that
This is not what I had in mind
I'm really scared of getting lost in real life
So please stop asking me for more
Let me get this straight
Let me get this right
I need a place to be alone
Let me get this straight
Let me get this right
Let me go
You've just helped to get me out of myself
I don't feel quite myself
I think I'm losing heart
I'm sick and tired of all those words
Voices in my head
I think I have become
Another suffering of my soul
You ask me how I'm feeling
Looking in my eyes
Hearing only what you want to hear
I'm holding my breath
Holding my time
I wish you knew how I was hurt
I'm really scared of getting lost in real life

47. (heb geen idee waar we eigenlijk heen tellen)
Radiohead - Exit Music (for a Film)
Wake... from your sleep
The drying of your tears
Today.. we escape
We escape.
Pack and get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before.. all hell.. breaks loose.
Breathe... keep breathing
Don’t lose.. your nerve.
Breathe... keep breathing
I can’t do this.. alone.
Sing us a song
A song to keep us warm
There’s such a chill
Such a chill.
You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope that your rules and wisdom choke you
Now we are one
In everlasting peace
We hope that you choke.. that you choke
We hope that you choke.. that you choke
We hope that you choke.. that you choke

48. The Streets - It's Too Late
She said 'Meet me at the gates at eight
'Leave now, don't be late'
She said one day she'd walk away
'Cause I was always late
Thought things were okay
Didn't care though anyway
Say 'Sorry, babe, I had to meet a mate'
Tempting fate
We first met through a shared view
She loved me and I did too
It's now seven-fifty
Getting ready, better be nifty
Do my hair quickly
Step out, it's cloudy
Mate bells me to borrow money
I've got two henrys and a dealer to pay
Call up on geezers to rid these green trees
From my reeking jeans
Got a You-Think-I-Care air
Out glaring geezers' stares
I'm here and I'm there
Couldn't see past the end of my beer
What was getting near
All of the silence after the tears
I didn't know it was over
Till it was too late, too ate
But if I ever needed you
Would you be there?
She said 'Meet me at the gates, don't be late'
But pretty soon the day came for change
And I was glad she never walked away
So I'm choosing what to wear
Doing my hair with an hour to spare
When my life went pear
She'd been there with a fixed stare
Big wheel climbed to the top
Geezers' stares bounced off
Standing at the top of this huge mountain
Smiling and shouting
Spring flowers sprouting
Not one inch of doubt in my mind
As I reached the gates
Came around the corner at a rate
Risked her love
But I was gonna set things straight
Never again am I gonna be late 3x
I didn't know it was over
Till it was too late, too ate
But if I ever needed you
Would you be there?
I said meet me at the gates
Leave now, don't be late
I waited for a while
Listening to her voicemail
Mind set sail
Then the facts turned me pale
Wind, rain, hail
My fears unveiled for my fair female
She'd walked away
Too little to late
I step up the pace
Walk past the gate
Rain runs over my face
Spirit falls from grace
I purchase a hazy escape at the alcohol place
In the Chase, I sat down, got a fat frown
Weeping and drown in my senses
For this love game's expensive
I walk in a trance
Got a wounded soldier stance
And the everyday geezers' stares throw me off balance
Now nothing holds significance
And nothing holds relevance
Cause the only thing I can see is her elegance
I didn't know it was over
Till it was too late, too ate
But if I ever needed you
Would you be there?
I didn't know it was over
Till it was too late, too ate
But if I ever needed you
