QUEENSRYCHE SET TO UNVEIL AMERICAN SOLDIER THIS SPRING
Epic Concept Album Looks At War From The Soldier’s Perspective; Spring Tour Of U.S. To Follow
LOS ANGELES — Queensrÿche is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their 12th studio album, AMERICAN SOLDIER. The concept album, due this spring from Rhino/Atco, finds the band once again tackling some heavy subject matter, this time focusing on telling the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate has spent the last few years conducting extensive interviews with veterans and has crafted their thoughts into this epic tale. AMERICAN SOLDIER examines American wars from World War II through Iraq from the viewpoint of those in the trenches and on the frontlines. Following the album’s release, Queensrÿche plan to present tracks from the album live on an extensive spring tour of the U.S., with international dates to follow later in 2009. The first date of the tour will be a hometown gig at Seattle’s Snoqualmie Casino on April 16.
“Queensrÿche has always had incredible support from members of the Armed Services,” says Tate. “It seems like after every show, I’d end up speaking with a fan that was or had been involved with the military. The more and more I began to hear their accounts and feelings, the more I really felt a conviction to tell their story. Over the last two years, I’ve conducted dozens of one-on-one interviews with veterans of many different American wars. I listened to their amazing and moving recounts and did my best to examine war through their eyes.”

Mike Stone has decided he will not be touring with Queensrÿche this spring. We will miss him. He is a wonderful player and has contributed to our lives musically and spiritually. We wish him the best and hope to see him succeed in everything he chooses to participate in. He adds this statement:
"After much consideration, I will not be joining Queensrÿche on the 2009 American Soldier Tour. I feel now is the time to focus on other musical endeavors, including my new band Speed X with Nick Catanese of Black Label Society. I would like to thank all of the Queensrÿche fans around the world for being nothing less than amazing to me during my time with the band. You have treated me like gold, and I will never forget it. It has been an honor to be a part of the Queensryche family, and I wish Geoff, Michael, Scott and Eddie nothing but the very best." - Mike Stone

Geen Belgische dates ook, dat zou toch bijzonder jammer zijn. Hopelijk komt hieraan snel verandering en kunnen wij allemaal in de Lage Landen nog een keer van hen genieten.

Scott Rockenfield reports that the new Queensrÿche album will be like Rage For Order "through a time tunnel".
Queensrÿche drummer Scott Rockenfield reveals that the band has just signed a new deal with Roadrunner Records and that their upcoming album is taking the Seattle-based metal quintet in some new directions.
“I add a lot of film score elements or sound effects [into my drum work], especially on the new thing we’re working on right now,” Rockenfield tells A.D.D. “Geoff [Tate] and I have really spent a lot of time together redesigning the Queensrÿche thing, which you’re going to love. It’s huge rock but with a great dance vibe to it, real modern dance. It’s kind of like Rage [For Order] through a time tunnel, bringing it into the now. There are a lot of electronic elements to it. It’s a big rock thing that is going to have a lot of color to it — it’s good and really intense.”
The drummer offers no set song titles yet, but adds: “We’re moving into really dark and heavy rock for us. It’s not like a Lady Gaga dance record, but it’s a combination of a lot of different elements — Lady Gaga meets Nine Inch Nails meets Queensrÿche, because when you get Geoff’s voice [in the mix] that really starts to define what we do. We don’t have a big plan for a concept, but that could change, too.”

QUEENSRŸCHE Putting Finishing Touches On New Album
Seattle-based progressive metallers QUEENSRŸCHE are puttting the finishing touches on their twelfth studio album for a late spring release via Loud & Proud Records, a Roadrunner Records imprint focusing on established artists.
Photos from the studio can be viewed below (courtesy of Queensryche.com).
In a 2010 interview with Attention Deficit Delirium, QUEENSRŸCHE drummer Scott Rockenfield revealed that the band's upcoming CD is taking the quintet in some new directions.
"I add a lot of film score elements or sound effects [into my drum work], especially on the new thing we’re working on right now," Rockenfield said. "Geoff [Tate, vocals] and I have really spent a lot of time together redesigning the QUEENSRŸCHE thing, which you're going to love. It's huge rock but with a great dance vibe to it, real modern dance. It's kind of like 'Rage' ['For Order'] through a time tunnel, bringing it into the now. There are a lot of electronic elements to it. It's a big rock thing that is going to have a lot of color to it — it's good and really intense."
When asked about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to QUEENSRŸCHE's 2009 CD, "American Soldier", QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate stated on Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM, "In a sense, it is [a concept record]. It's a very contemporary record.
He continued, "'Empire' was a record of the time. Rock music was really the music of the times in 1990. Unfortunately, rock music isn't the music of the times anymore — it's very underground.
"What we're doing with this record is we're taking the 'Empire' song structure, in a sense, where it's very strong songs, very melodic, but we kind of restructured the rhythm section, and Scott's done an amazing job on restructuring that — him and Eddie [Jackson, bass] have just really gone to town, and they've made it very contemporary-sounding.
"These days, in comparison to the old days, people used to sit in their houses and listen to music right in the front room on their stereo system. People don't do that anymore. They plug in and they're mobile and they're moving and they're doing stuff and the music, they're listening to it as they're doing stuff. This music has that feel. It's very contemporary in the sense that it's very rhythmatic. The rhythm structure kind of reflects the way modern life is — we're all busy, we're all doing stuff. And Scott being the incredible drummer that he is, the various time signatures, the feel of the record, it's now — it's very, very now."
QUEENSRŸCHE's Queensrÿche Cabaret tour was filmed for future DVD release. The trek, which kicked off in late July 2010, was previously described by the group as "Teatro ZinZanni meets Cirque du Soleil, with the band performing their hits and never-heard-before selections accompanied by go-go dancers, burlesque dancers, drag queens, a juggler, ballet dancer, trapeze artist, a contortionist and others. Definitely a fun-filled evening like no other full of freaks and shrieks!"

Inderdaad.
