BAND STATEMENT

After a longer hiatus and some disagreements and various difficulties within the band we have decided to call it quits. This was not an easy choice to make. Beardfish has always been our main musical outlet - a proper garage band - the kind that meet up in the rehearsal studio and try out new material together for long, massive sessions at a time. Some of the best times of our lives have been spent together on the road, in the studio and just hanging out.
Growing up, having families and all that has made that particular way of working very difficult, leading to long periods where we haven't been able to rehearse.. And we LIKE to play.

We've had a very good run though; eight albums in fifteen years, nine if you include "The early years" (ten if you count "The Sane Day" double album as two!). We've toured with some great bands. We've met amazing people and found friends in places we'd never been before.
We want to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the years, you guys are fantastic and the prog community is a very special place to be a part of.

We spent our youth and our early adulthood as Beardfish and we grew up within the band.. Individually we will now venture out into other musical projects. No matter what, Beardfish has been very special and we will all hold it close to our hearts, but right now it's time for new adventures.

Zeer jammer, een van de meest interessante bands van de laatste jaren (al vervielen ze inmiddels al wel wat in herhaling).

Ik las het ook net op Progwereld, maar was dus al enige tijd bekend. Hoewel niet alles even goed was, toch wel een van de meest interessante bands van de afgelopen jaren. Misschien wel juist omdat je niet altijd goed wist waar je bij hen aan toe was. Dat ondanks dat ik de herhaling ook wel herken, maar ze daarnaast geregeld verrasten, zowel in positieve als in negatieve zin.

In july op night of the prog. Nieuw album op komst? Grotere tour? Of gewoon omdat hij er toch al is met big big train? Ik heb geen idee, maar ik kan iig niet wachten.

Nieuw album alleszins, er zijn al wat studiofragmentjes verschenen op hun in november 2023 nieuw gecreëerde Instagrampagina.

Dat heb ik bij gebrek aan Instagram, gemist. Ik zal eens kijken of ik nog wat kan vinden. Zitten die bands daar tegenwoordig meer op dan anders socials?

Aproxis, het staat hier ook al een flinke tijd aangekondigd.

Heb zelf ook geen IG, zelfs geen Facebook, maar je ziet zo'n berichten, reels, posts,... vaak ingebed in andere websites. Bv. Progwereld schrijft een artikeltje en verwijst dan naar de bron, wat vaak een bericht is van de band op een sociale mediakanaal. Meestal ook vrij te bekijken zonder dat je aangemeld bent. En inderdaad, vaak wordt er op alle kanalen tegelijk gepost (of toch als het om wat grotere aankondigingen gaat). Een Instagrampagina is vaak verbonden met Facebook (en wie weet Tik Tok tegenwoordig), waardoor wat je post op IG automatisch ook op FB verschijnt. En zo zijn zij die effectief de moeite doen om zich in te schrijven op een ouderwetse e-mailnieuwsbrief, tegenwoordig vaak de laatsten om een nieuwtje te vernemen... Zo ook de tournee van Big Big Train komende herfst. Was al 3 dagen bekend via de socials, ticketverkoop in de Boerderij was al begonnen etc. en pas daarna landde de nieuwsbrief van de band in mijn mailbox.

Ik tag Mindscapes, musicborst, Bonk en Aproxis omdat niet iedereen altijd de updates van de Ariesten-discussies in de gaten houden.

Ik kijk uit naar het nieuwe album. Ik merk dat ik niet snel meer warm loop voor nieuwe progressive rock, maar Beardfish (en ook Agusa en Wobbler) zijn zo lekker anders dan veel moderne progressive rock.

In The Autumn vind ik wel goed klinken. Ben niet de grootste Beardfish-fan (correctie: ik ken niet veel van hen, enkel Mammoth eigenlijk), maar deze song gaat er wel vlot in. Ik denk dat ik de muziek vaak gewoon te druk vind. In Big Big Train vind ik Rikard wel absoluut onmisbaar als gitarist, toetsenist, zanger,...

Die versnelling halverwege het nummer groovet lekker en de samenzang van Rikard met de dame (wie zou dat zijn?) vind ik erg mooi. Benieuwd wat in die beschrijving met prog-noir wordt bedoeld ook!

Misschien toch maar eens een Beardfish-ontdekkingstocht inplannen !

Misschien dat het nét na mijn zoekopdracht is geupload, of ik kan weer eens niet (goed) zoeken.
Ik moet de plaat nog toevoegen aan Musicmeter, maar ik zit al aan mijn maximum aantal toevoegingen. Wellicht wil iemand anders het toevoegen?

Bijzonder dat 'Out in the Open' op Bandcamp is opgeknipt in verschillende songs, maar hier gewoon 1 lange epic is:

Ik ben zelf al een tijd uitgekeken op Big Big Train, maar vond het ooit wel erg leuk. De soloplaten van Rikard Sjöblom gingen conceptueel ook over vriendschappen en nu hier weer. Rikard schrijft altijd lichtelijk autobiografische teksten, op het gevaar af dat het wel slachtofferig is (vandaar prog-noir?).

Over prog-noir gesproken. Agusa heeft net een soundtrack voor film-noit uitgebracht.

Wow, release op 1 november al. Sneller dan verwacht . Hier kijk ik echt naar uit.
