Metallica in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Metalband Metallica en hiphopgroep Run DMC zijn opgenomen in de Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ook gitarist Jeff Beck, singer-songwriter Bobby Womack en de doo-wopgroep Little Anthony and the Imperials hebben een plaatsje gekregen in de Hall of Fame.
Elk jaar worden er vijf nieuwe namen opgenomen. De artiesten worden op 4 april gehuldigd tijdens een ceremonie in de Amerikaanse stad Cleveland.

On September 27, 1986, METALLICA bassist Cliff Burton lost his life at the age of 24 in a coach crash near Ljungby, Sweden. In the 23 years since that devastating event, no one has chronicled Burton's huge talent and achievements in book form. However, in June 2009 this is set to change with the global publication of "To Live Is To Die: The Life And Death Of Metallica's Cliff Burton", written by U.K.-based author Joel McIver and published by Jawbone Press. The foreword has been provided by Cliff's close friend in METALLICA, Kirk Hammett.
"I'm deeply honored that Kirk spoke to me for the Cliff Burton biography," says McIver (pictured below with Hammett), who has written 14 books since 1999, including 2004's bestselling "Justice For All: The Truth About Metallica". "We talked about the rollercoaster ride of METALLICA's early career which he and Cliff experienced, from the time that both men joined the band in early 1983 until Cliff's death three and a half years later. The impact that Burton had on the rest of METALLICA, both musically and as an example of how to stick to your principles in the music industry, was profound — and Kirk provided a perspective on that impact which couldn't have come from anywhere else."

Dat vond met name Cliff. Hij vond het al tijdens de opnamen van Ride The Lightning al te commercieel klinken. Van mij mogen ze het nummer live ook wel weglaten, en andere krakers van RTL spelen, zoals het titelnummer, Creeping Death, Fade To Black en For Whom The Bell Tolls.

Coldplay en Metallica headliners Rock Werchter
Rock Werchter heeft de eerste namen bekendgemaakt voor de editie 2009 van het vierdaagse muziekfestival. Vrijdag 3 juli zijn de Britse rockers van Coldplay de hoofdact. De Amerikaanse metalband Metallica is zondag 5 juli de grote publiekstrekker.
Coldplay zakt na 2002 en 2003 voor de derde keer af naar de wei in Werchter. De groep van frontman Chris Martin bracht vorig jaar het album 'Viva La Vida' uit. De Britse groep concentreert zich deze zomer op eigen stadionshows en maakt één enkel weekend vrij voor festivals waaronder Rock Werchter.
Metallica zal voor de zesde keer op het Werchterse podium staan. De groep brak vorig jaar na een mindere periode de ban met het album 'Death Magnetic'. 'Voor geen enkele groep zijn er de afgelopen 34 edities zoveel mensen naar de heilige wei afgezakt', laat de festivalorganisatie weten.
Verder zijn ook al Placebo en The Killers bevestigd. De Britten van Placebo zijn coheadliner op donderdag 2 juli en stellen net als bij hun vorige albums hun toekomstige nummer zes voor in Werchter. De groep, met nieuwe drummer, viert in 2009 haar vijftiende verjaardag. De Amerikaanse rockgroep The Killers zal op vrijdag 3 juli op de Werchterse wei staan.
Het festival loopt van donderdag 2 juli tot en met zondag 5 juli. Elke dag is er plaats voor 80.000 festivalgangers in het festivalpark. De prijzen blijven ongeveer gelijk. Een combiticket kost 169 euro, vorig jaar was dat 165 euro. Een dagticket blijft ongewijzigd op 75 euro. Kamperen kost net als vorig jaar 17 euro.
De tickets zijn beschikbaar vanaf zaterdag 14 februari om 9u. Telefonisch: 0900 2 60 60 of via www.proximusgoformusic.be. Per persoon kunnen maximaal vier tickets besteld worden.

Ik zie ze 30 maart wel. Al ben ik veel meer geinteresseerd in Machine Head, maar Metallica zelf is toch mooi meegenomen.

75€ voor een dagticket, combi-ticket is 169. Ik snap nog altijd niet waarom Metallica niet op Graspop staat. Dat terzijde want ik denk dat we hier niet zo off-topic mogen gaan

Lamb of God and Mastodon are along with for the fun at all the shows and on August 1 Linkin Park will headline the first of the two Knebworth shows (we take the stage for the second one on August 2).

Enkele jaren geleden werd speciaal voor Metallica in ons land het Fields Of Rock festival bedacht, maar dit jaar tourt de band met haar eigen festival: Sonisphere. De kickoff van deze festivaltour is op 20 juni in het Goffertpark in Nijmegen, waarvoor de voorverkoop aanstaande vrijdag van start gaat in twee smaken: normale kaarten (75 euro) en VIP kaarten (175 euro). Met die laatste krijg je toegang tot het voorste vak, toegang tot een speciale VIP area met gratis drank, aparte ingang en aparte parkeerplaats. Naast Metallica bestaat de line-up tot dusver uit Slipknot, Lamb Of God en Mastodon, maar in de komende weken worden er nog meer bands aan toegevoegd.

De overige bands spreken mij totaal niet aan. Van mij mag Machine Head wel aan de line-up worden toegevoegd of een andere strakke metalband. Waarschijnlijk kies ik toch maar voor Rock Werchter, in plaats van 1 dag 4 dagen feest

Lamb of God en Slipknot in ieder geval niet ( ooit geprobeerd, zonder succes.) Een jaar geleden ongeveer het album Blood Moontain van Mastodon beluisterd, maar het belande al snel in de prullenbak. Gezien de hoge waarderingen hier op MuMe zal ik het nog eens proberen binnenkort.

18.00 uur : deuren en zaal open
19.00 uur : Sword (tot 19.30 uur)
19.45 uur : Machinehead
20.30 uur : pauze
21.00 uur : Metallica
23.15 uur : verwacht einduur
Ik denk dus dat ik Sword al ga missen, want ik ga echt niet zo vroeg al in het Sportpaleis zitten. Machinehead zal ik een klein beetje van meemaken.
