Stormachtige 20 - week 3

Roosbeef is terug met een prachtig album en In Mijnen Tijd is de tweede single van dit album. Een uptempo - haast funky - single met dezelfde sneer naar boomers als Het Zesde Metaals Tid van Ton.

Hinds heeft eind vorig jaar nog een single uitgebracht. Gemist, maar het rammelt weer lekker. De mannen van Westerman blijven ook fijne lo-fi singles produceren. Blue Comanche klinkt helderder dan eerdere singles, maar is nog wel typisch Westerman. Canshaker Pi verrast met de nieuwe single 'Glass', die duikt de komende weken vast in meer lijstjes op.

JunoDream: Mijn recente ontdekking uit England: Of het geschikt is voor de Afrekening moet nog worden bezien, want Laatste EP kent 4 zeer diversen songs. Waarvan deze nog het dichtst bij een singel zit. Vrees dat ik heel snel fan kan worden van deze Britse rockers met gevoel.

De vorige single van Stone Temple Pilots vond ik niet heel bijzonder, maar de nieuwe is dat wel. Ouderwets akoestische rock, prachtig gezongen (heeft uiteraard niets meer met grunge te maken).

Week 3 van 2020 - de opschoning van 2019 plaatjes gaat nog door, er komt dan ook wel enorm veel uit zo ineens. Gister nog een stuk of 10 tips waarvan een paar tegenvielen, andere nog in de wacht staan en 1 meteen in de lijst mag. Daarentegen hebben de meeste binnenkomers juist sinds vorige week staan wachten.
Hoogste nieuwe is van het Nederlandse electroduo The Secret Love Parade. Hun vorige album was al van jaren geleden waarna het erg stil werd tot vorig jaar ineens een nieuwe single kwam. Heerlijk nummer dat nu een opvolger heeft, overigens is het bijbehorende album er ook al. Erg fijn ritme op de synths.
Lilly Hiatt is inderdaad de dochter van en is dit jaar aan haar 3e soloalbum toe. Ik won ooit haar debuut, bij het blad Heaven, en dat was een positieve verrassing die leidde tot meer interesse en toen haar 2e album kwam vond ik die meteen geweldig. Eens kijken wat de 3e brengt, de eerste single is misschien minder overtuigend dan die van het vorige maar nog steeds meer dan prima.
Gold Baby stond vorig jaar wat weken in de onderste regionen van m.n lijst, de nieuwe komt meteen wat hoger binnen. Het is ook een meer uptempo nummer met wat lekkere uitbarstingen wat ik erg graag hoor. De bijgevoegde clip is live maar nauwelijks van de singleversie te onderscheiden.
Lauran Hibberd is de enige van de releases van gister die meteen in de lijst mag, het is dan ook een erg lekker in het gehoor liggend nummer wat weinig luisterbeurten nodig heeft om te kennen. Ik vind lang niet alles van haar even interessant, volgens mij is het hoe meer ze als Ali Barter klinkt hoe beter ik het vind.
Moaning stond in 2018 op BKS, postpunk band zoals er zoveel zijn tegenwoordig. Ik vond ze toen wel goed, m'n vriendenclub had wat wisselende gevoelens. De nieuwe single zal weinig verandering in deze waardering brengen denk ik, klinkt vrijwel hetzelfde.
Ratboys haalde ik uit een spotify lijst van iemand die ik volg, ondanks de naam hebben ze wel degelijk een zangeres en klinkt gewoon zoals ik graag hoor.
Anna Burch dan nog, haar vorige album vond ik erg goed en de nieuwe single is wat aan de rustigere kant maar het blijft toch wel mooi.

- Blossoms komt deze week op 1. Erg fijne band vind ik dat. Ik hoor wat gospelinvloeden in The Keeper en dat spreekt me wel aan. Lekker nummer!
- The 1975 heeft weer een nieuw nummer! Het album is uitgesteld, maar gelukkig krijgen we geregeld een nummer. Dit nummer is weer heel anders dan de andere singles, maar ik word ook hier erg vrolijk van. Geeft mij 500 Days of Summer vibes.
- Dan Rotterdams trots. Weer een leuk nummer van ze. Deze keer gaat het over Angela. Eerder maakten ze al een nummer over Simone. Angela is een simpel doch herkenbaar nummer.
- Tenslotte nog Soccer Mommy. Dit nummer klinkt op het eerste gehoor erg goed, en ik ga er zeker vaker naar luisteren. Ik kijk erg uit naar het komende album, haar album Clean vond ik een goed album.

Reijersen's Weekly Ratings v2020.3

Nieuwe week met weer een hoop nieuwkomers. Gregory Porter pakt me meteen met zijn gospelesque nieuwe single en inmiddels ben ik ook overtuigd van Khruangbin.

Binnen De Zestien 18/01/2020

Zo, ik ben eindelijk ook in 2020 beland, en hier mijn eerste lijstje voor het nieuwe jaar. Leuk dat er weer een paar nieuwe deelnemers zijn. Heb me prima vermaakt met de stukjesschrijvers, goed bezig, jongens.

In mijn lijst nog wat flarden van de namen die op 28 december 2019 nog genoteerd stonden, maar vooral veel nieuwe binnenkomers. Lola Marsh en Agnes Obel, met het vertrouwde stemgeluid en de typische muziek (vooral laatstgenoemde). Van de lome muziek van Khruangbin & Leon Bridges - uitstekende combi, zoals al te horen was op voorganger Texas Sun en nu ook op C-Side - via de dansbare pop van Georgia naar de nieuwe single (en voorproefje op nieuwe album) van de altijd gezellige Morrissey. En Moby die de macht overneemt; ik vind het prima (alleen mag dat ook zonder geschreeuw).

En dan nog de nummers overgenomen uit dit jaar geposte lijstjes, natuurlijk. Meadowlake klinkt verrassend goed, en dat ze uit Groningen komen is dan nog een bonuspunt. Mura Masa duikt naar mijn idee overal op in januari 2020, maar bij het horen van zo'n geweldig nummer als Teenage Headache Dreams is dat meer dan terecht. En wát een geweldige (auto)kneiters staan er op de EP van Krystal Klear - Entre Nous is de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer.

De dames zijn aardig aan de macht de laatste weken in mijn lijst. Hoog tijd voor de mannen om iets terug te doen en dat doen we met een Trojaans paard met de bandnaam Spanish Love Songs, zodat de dames nog niets vermoeden, voordat we ze een keiharde 'Kick' geven.




De andere binnenkomers zijn dan wel weer gewoon dames. Een heerlijke nieuwe single van Halsey waar je onmogelijk 'sad' van kunt worden. En ook mijn favoriete voetbalmoeder (na die van mijn eigen voetballertjes ) heeft weer een fijne nieuwe single.

Week 3 19/01/2020:
- Een nieuwe week met weer heel wat nieuwkomers waarvan het aanstekelijke Paper Cup van Real Estate de hoogste nieuwkomer is. Ze werkten voor deze song samen met de zangeres van Sylvan Esso en dat leidt tot een funky sound met een paar heerlijke gitaarsolo's. Moest het nog geen winter zijn zou ik dit nummer bombarderen tot song van de zomer.
- Volgende maand komt het nieuwe album van Soccer Mommy uit en op basis van de vorige singles zijn mijn verwachtingen heel hoog gespannen. Circle the drain heeft weer die nostalgische late nineties sound waar ze zo goed in is gekoppeld met die eerlijke teksten over haar depressies.
- Van Alice Boman verscheen afgelopen vrijdag eindelijk haar debuutalbum en het mooie Everybody Hurts (geen REM cover) is de laatste single. RIP Coyote Condo #5 van Grandaddy verscheen al vorige maand maar verscheen pas afgelopen week op spotify waardoor ik het nu pas beluisterde. Een epische track die zeker in de smaak zal vallen bij de fans.
- Country haalt niet zo vaak mijn lijst maar voor de nieuwe Margo Price mag ik graag een uitzondering. Stone Me is een gevoelig nummer waar ze het seksisme aanklaagt dat helaas nog dikwijls voorkomt in de countryindustrie.
- Verder nog de folk van Haux met Rosie Carney, de Mexicaanse sound van Natalie Fourcade en de indiepop van Anna Burch.

Toen ik vanmiddag bezig was in de sportschool (ja, goed bezig enzo) overviel mij ineens een gelukzalig gevoel toen de beginklanken van Lights Up door mijn oortjes heen kwamen. Wie had gedacht dat Harry Styles dat nog eens bij me teweeg zou brengen? Het is niet alleen omdat ‘zij’ fan is, al geeft dat wel meer waarde, maar ik vind het oprecht een sterk nummer, waar de emotionele/symbolische waarde nog eens bovenop komt. Getuige de tekst van Falling is ook Harry in een moeilijke periode terecht gekomen nadat ie zich verkeerd had gedragen tegen een geliefde fan hem. Falling raakt me wel maar vind ik ook te veel zelfmedelijden. Lights Up zou over zijn biseksualiteit gaan maar voelt ook als het moment dat hij erbovenop komt, weer gaat schijnen en nooit meer teruggaat naar de persoon die hij eerder was. Aangezien M nogal een impact op me heeft gehad en wel iets in me heeft veranderd, voelt het heel treffend. En die intro, hè? En dat motivatierefrein. Heel fijn. Dus besloot ik dat Harry een weekje op 1 mag. Deze is voor jou, M.

Verder nog een hoop oude plaatjes die de komende weken wel zullen verdwijnen. Maar ik wilde toch verder gaan waar ik gebleven was. The Hunger is alleen maar mooier geworden dus die krijgt een tweede leven in mijn lijst (stond er in september al in).

Ryan Beatty is een mattie van de BROCKHAMPTON-clique en is ook te horen op SUGAR (hij opent de track). Ook het refrein van BLEACH, dat echt een fan favorite is, is van zijn hand. Prachtige stem en dus fijn dat ie ook solodingen uitbrengt.

De spotlight voor de 2 hoogste binnenkomers:


Richard Dawson, sublieme Britse ‘folk’ zanger. Geheel eigenzinnig maakt hij meeslepende mini-epos. Recente clip bij nummer van album 2020 van vorig jaar. Doe jezelf een plezier en luister naar deze man.


Langzaam opbouwende electronica van de Engelse Craven Faults met zeer vakkundige toegevoegde elementen van ambient. Een pulserend en ademend geheel, aanrader!

Verder nieuw in de lijst:
-Tennis met een zeer catchy pop liedje, buitencategorie in de indiepop. Dat dromerige refrein!
-Igorrr staat altijd garant voor wat vurige metal/breakbeat fusie, nu geen uitzondering. Enige kritiekpunt: VEELS TE KORT
-070 shake met een verrassende R&B single, de futuristische sound valt op
-Ichiko Aoba met een zeer lieflijk folk liedje. Een soort Japanse Joanna Newsom al ga ik met deze vergelijking veel te kort door de bocht
-U.S. Girls maakt ni 2018 mijn favoriete album van dat jaar, nu weer terug met een sterke uptempo art-pop liedje
-Ultraísta is een project met producer Nigel Godrich onder de leden (je weet wel, de vijfde Beatle van Radiohead). Tis wel wat optimistischer dan het meeste van Radiohead
-R.A.P. Ferreira (aka milo) met de jazzy abstracte rap zoals we van hem gewend zijn
-OOIOO met japanse experimentele rock, opgericht door de drumster van Bordeoms
