Ik zal deze week 's een top 10 gaan samenstellen, maar ik kan toch alvast stellen dat het een uiterst teleurstellend muziekjaar is. Veel releases die niet aan de verwachtingen voldeden en ik ben zelden omver geblazen.

Oké, de balans toch maar even opgemaakt en ik ben in mijn vorige post blijkbaar iets te kritisch geweest. Het jaar 2024 levert tot dusver volop 4,0*-albums, maar nog geen een 4,5*-album en nauwelijks albums die hier tegenaan schuren. The Pineapple Thief staat vrijwel rotsvast bovenaan. In het staartje zullen nog wel een aantal verschuivingen plaatsvinden. Het is nu nog wachten op The Foreshadowing. Of misschien de grote onbekende tot nu toe. Niets is immers zeker in deze wereld.

Er moeten hele gekke dingen gebeuren wil Blood Incantation de nr 1 positie nog verliezen. Wat een meesterwerk is Absolute Elsewhere!
Zoals ik het nu voorzie is de enige band die deze lijst nog flink kan opschudden Opeth. Ik ga er min of meer vanuit dat hun nieuwe plaat wel ergens een plekje zal vinden in mijn eindlijst. Als ik de eerste reviews mag geloven is dat een enorm sterke plaat geworden (o.a. een 4,5 bij Angry Metal Guy), dus is een zeer hoge positie zeker niet ondenkbaar.
Behalve Blood Incantation is de volgorde nog enigszins willekeurig. Daar zou zeken nog het nodige in kunnen veranderen. Bands als Judas Priest, Frozen Crown, Charlotte Wessels, Dool, High On Fire, My Dying Bride, Nile, Devin Townsend of Witherfall zouden nog zomaar in mijn uiteindelijke lijst terecht kunnen komen. Of misschien een album dat ik nu nog niet gehoord heb en mij totaal gaat verrassen.
