Na 2,5 jaar eens een nieuwe lijst. Tot aan 41 mijn 5*-albums, en daarna nog een stuk of vijf die ik op Discogs vijf sterren heb gegeven. Vanaf ongeveer 50 dus 4,5* albums. Vanaf daar vind ik de selectieprocedure nog steeds moeilijk; ik heb heel veel albums (in ieder geval meer dan genoeg om de 100 verder te vullen) op 4,5* staan en daaruit vind ik het lastig kiezen. Ook volgorde blijf ik veelal over twijfelen. Top 50 is in ieder geval wel degelijk goed op orde. In 51-100 kan nog wel wat geschoven worden, en veel platen waardeer ik ook 'even veel', hoe onmogelijk zo'n diagnose ook lijkt.

Mooie lijst, zou echt heel wat albums van jou ook in mijn top 100 hebben. Ooit komt dit er bij mij ook wel eens van, eerst nog wat meer muziek leren kennen. Ziet er mij alleen wel een zeer moeilijke opdracht uit.

Radio Caroline Album Top 100
Op basis van persoonlijke top 30-lijsten van luisteraars. Uitgezonden op Nieuwjaarsdag, 1 januari 1977, live vanaf het zendschip Mi-Amigo op 259 meter (1187 kHz) middengolf. Ik ben de gelukkige bezitter van de complete uitzending.

Indrukwekkende lijst en mooie tussenstand van de jaren zeventig. Ik kan hier een heel eind in meegaan.
Een ding klopt er niet: Rumours van Fleetwood Mac. Die moest op dat moment nog uitkomen , dacht ik. Ga ik die oude bandenverzameling nog maar eens terugluisteren.

De oplossing gevonden van het hierboven beschreven raadsel. Op nummer 22 stond oorspronkelijk niet Rumours van Fleetwood Mac, maar de elpee Loving Awareness.
Loving Awareness
Eigenaar van Radio Caroline, de Ier Ronan O'Rahilly was persoonlijk betrokken bij het promoten van het album. Niet alle deejay's en zeker niet alle luisteraars waren echter gecharmeerd van het zweverige bandje met vage sixties-idealen. Van "Love and Peace" kon je op een zendschip niet leven: er was vaak niet eens genoeg te eten aan boord.

Nummer 22 werd daarom in latere publicaties vervangen door Rumours; een anachronisme, want het album was op 1 januari 1977 nog niet uit en kon al zeker niet in de favorietenlijstjes van luisteraars staan. Post liep via een adres in Spanje en voordat het op het schip aankwam duurde het al gauw zes weken.

Verder klopt de lijst met de uitzending die duurde van 14 tot 24 uur en de deejays namen er de tijd voor. Vaak meerdere nummers van een elpee. Gezellig feestje en nauwelijks reclame.In Nederland moeilijk te ontvangen. Zelf woonde ik dicht aan de kust en had weinig problemen. De zender klonk prima. Het ging hier om de tweede zender op 259 meter met laag vermogen. De hoofdzender was verhuurd aan Radio Mi-Amigo en zond in die tijd uit op 192 / 1562 kHz.

Ja, hij staat nu op de harde schijf. De meeste oude cassettes zijn gedigitaliseerd en weggedaan. Soms heb ik daar nog wel eens spijt van.
