Op die van Madonna missen mij teveel hits, alles behalve compleet.

Jeff Buckley - Grace

Dat maakt de rest van de uitmelkpraktijken overbodig.

Van de tweede plaat van 40 Licks krijg ik grijs haar; zo slecht samengesteld.

Heb me hier al meerdere malen druk over gemaakt.

Dit had de perfecte compilatie moeten worden...

Ga maar eens kijken naar hoe triest ik dat plaatje vind
(enkel de 2de plaat, want de eerst is gelukkig wèl fantastisch)

Ik vind 40 Licks DE GEMISTE KANS op een perfecte verzamelplaat.

(You Got Me Rocking is toch tenenkrommend slecht, heeft geen melodie die naam waardig ? maar staat er helaas wèl op!)

En dan die 4 toen "nieuwe" nummers die men er tussengooit terwijl formidable songs die plaat niet haalden;
Waiting o a Friend, Star Star, Heartbreaker, en dan Fool to Cry dàt op het eind kort afgeknipt werd...), Hot Stuff en She's So Cold die er niet op staan,
tjonge jonge, ik blijf dat een zootje vinden, die tweede plaat van 40 licks.
Blijkbaar door een uitzendkracht samengesteld op een maandag, die plaat!

U2 heeft ook alles behalve goede verzamelplaten, die zijn er zelfs in geslaagd om THE FLY er uit te bonjouren, dàt snap je als fan al helemaal niet!

Zo had ik het nog niet bekeken Evanshewson. Ik wist niet dat er stukken van een nummer zijn afgeknipt, dat is natuurlijk rampzalig.

Die van madonna is van voor de jaren 90 dus tot dan staan er wel ongeveer alle hits op.

Gambler, Dress You Up, True Blue, Who's That Girl, Causing a Commotion, The Look of Love en Dear Jessie zijn allemaal voor 1990, maar niet terug te vinden op de verzamelaar... Ach, je kan niet alles hebben

Ik val hier eigenlijk wel door de mand, want ik heb die plaat niet maar beschouw het wel altijd als de neige noodzakelijke madonna plaat.

Allevier bevatten ze ALLE essentiele dingen en bovendien staan de tracks keurig in chronologische volgorde. En gewoon in de bekende versies (als er remixen zijn, staan ze er als bonus op). Deze drie elementen zijn bij veel verzamelaars nogal een probleem, waardoor ik maar een eigen variant brand.

Van Madonna heb ik oorspronkelijk haar twee losse verzamelaars gekocht, maar tegenwoordig draai ik alleen nog maar de zelfgemaakte 4cd-box. Die twee verzamelaars missen nogal wat. Met verwijdering van de door mij toegevoegde albumtracks en met toevoeging van American Pie (vind ik zelf niets aan) had 'ie gewoon zó in de winkel moeten liggen.

Het ultieme album bestaat niet. Het is natuurlijk een kweste van smaak, maar zelfs mijn meest favoriete platen hebben m.i. een of meerdere zwakkere nummers.
Een voorbeeld: Uriah Heep heeft veel geweldige nummers gemaakt, maar ze staan wel op verschillende, in mijn ogen, minder geslaagde albums.
Nog een voorbeeld is Bob Dylan. Als songwriter is hij onbetwist geniaal, maar zijn zang en uitvoeringen kan mij niet altijd bekoren. Sterker nog, meestal vind ik de covers door andere artiesten beter.
Om deze redenen koop ik regelmatig ultiem verzamelwerk van mijn favoriete artiesten, het beste van het beste.

Er is eigenlijk maar één verzamelaar waar ik überhaupt naar luister, maar dat is dan ook een hele fijne:

Helemaal mee eens, Rearviewmirror is inderdaad een zeer complete verzamelaar.

Valt trouwens wel op dat platenmaatschappijen een verzamelaar uitbrengen wanneer de groep de maatschappij heeft verlaten. Dit was met Pearl Jam zo en gebeurd nu ook met radiohead!

Ik luister de laatste tijd vaak de verzamelalbums Dark Was the Night en Nuggets. Dark was the Night is een soort verzamelalbum waar de ''indie'' artiesten van de laatste jaren een bijdrage leveren. Nuggets is wat bekender, dat is een verzamelbox van de periode 1965-1968.
Deze album bevallen mij zo goed, dat ik eigenlijk benieuwd ben of er meer van dit soort verzamelaars zijn. Het mag van dezelfde periode zijn maar naar andere muziekperiodes ben ik ook benieuwd.

Kom maar op met de tips

Verzamelaarshaat zit tussen de oren, vind ik. Als een verzamelaar uitgegeven zou worden als album is het blijkbaar opeens wel mogelijk om hem geweldig te vinden. Van veel bands beluister ik vele malen liever een verzamelaar dan een regulier album. Helemaal als ik zelf verzamelaars maak.
