Nooit was het zo gemakkelijk de nr.1 hier uit te kiezen. Eén van de grootste new wave-klassiekers en de nr.1 van MuMeLadder 2008.

2. Elvis Costello & the Attractions – Oliver’s army
Luchtige, vrolijke en bovenal perfecte popsong.

3. The Nits – Tutti ragazzi
Eén van de eerste hits van the Nits. Die melodie, die synths en die gitaar vind ik gewoon heerlijk.

4. The Police – So lonely
Wellicht jeugdsentiment, maar dit nummer kan voor mij nooit meer stuk.

5. The New inspiration – rainbow (I love you)
Topsong uit 1970 van Belgische band. Melodisch niet te versmaden.

6. Carly Simon – Nobody does it better
Soundtrack van een James Bond-film. In ieder geval : prachtig nummer!

7. Dire straits – So far away
Dit nummer zal iedereen wel kennen.

8. Talk talk – It’s my life
Ook een bekend nummer, klassieker.

9. Jimi Hendrix – Foxy lady
De gitaarsound van Jimi Hendrix is legendarisch en invloedrijk, topsong.

10. Chris Isaak – Blue hotel
Chris Isaak heb ik altijd de Roy Orbison van de jaren '80 en '90 genoemd, prachtige zang en melodie.

11. Yardbirds – Over under sideways down
Legendarische band uit de 60's, de gitaar van Jeff Beck is hier wel apart.

12. Lloyd Cole and the Commotions – Rattlesnakes
De eerste hit van Lloyd Cole and the Commotions en vind ik nog steeds hun beste.

13. The The – Uncertain smile
Uit zijn bejubelde debuutalbum, dit nummer vind ik nog steeds briljant.

14. Kayak – Chance for a lifetime
Vind ik één van de beste nummers van Kayak.

15. Don Fardon – Indian reservation
Eéndagsvlieg, maar wel een evergreen uit 1970. Luister vooral naar de tekst en de blazers.

16. Georges Moustaki – Le meteque
Franse klassieker.

17. Cliff Richard – Wired for sound
Cliff Richard is gewoon een heel goede zanger en hier steekt hij handig de draak met de walkman-rage begin jaren '80.

18. The Pretenders – Talk of the town
Uit hun tweede album, met de herkenbare zang van Chrissie Hynde.

19. Jona Lewie – You’ll always find me in the kitchen at parties
Een aanstekelijk reggae-achtig deuntje met passende synths.

20. Eurythmics – The miracle of love
Eén van de vele hits van Eurythmics, een rustig nummer ditmaal.

Ik had ook een top-30 kunnen maken want vind ik eveneens prima : de nummers van Fischer Z, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Andrew Gold, Alan Parsons project, Madness, The Wheather girls, Paul Simon, James Brown en Sting.

Ongelooflijk dat ze nooit verder gekomen zijn.

Ik heb trouwens top40 dossier-dvd op pc staan en die gaat tot 2002. Misschien idee dat we hierna jaren 90 en 00 nemen? Kan het helaas niet kopieeren, dus zal handmatig moeten, maar vind ik niet erg. Als er animo voor is doe ik het wel.

Huh? Zijn dit allemaal nummers die nooit verder zijn gekomen dan nummer 31? Kun je nagaan, zo'n hitlijst weerspiegelt ook lang niet altijd wat goed en/of blijvend is. Maar dat wisten we al langer natuurlijk.

Halverwege de lijst had ik al zo'n twintig pareltjes opgeschreven, dus dat wordt dringen. Maar goed, dit is 'm geworden, mijn lijstje.

1. Andrew Gold - Lonely boy (een van de beste songs ever, klaar)
2. John 'Cougar' Mellencamp - Jack and Diane (ook altijd geweldig gevonden)
3. Jimi Hendrix - Foxy lady (kwam deze klassieker écht niet hoger?)
4. Fischer Z - Marliese (furieuze powerpop van een geweldige, maar onderschatte band)
5. The Police - So lonely (eerste hitje, maar wat een klassieker. Kon ik me in mijn jeugd helemaal in inleven: 'In this theatre that I call my soul, I always play the starring role')
6. The The - Uncertain smile (met die lange, prachtige parelende pianosolo van Jools Holland)
7. Chris Isaak - Blue hotel (perfecte popsong met 'twangy' gitaar. Kwam deze écht niet hoger?)
8. Pretenders - Talk of the town (bijna alle Pretenders-singles zijn meesterwerkjes; deze is daar geen uitzondering op)
9. Talk Talk - It's my life (pas later een van mijn favo groepjes geworden, maar dit was als eerste kennismaking ook niet onaardig)
10. Paul Simon - Allergies (met indrukwekkende jazzy gitaarsolo van Al diMeola)
11. New Adventures - Come on (een cover, maar wel een hele goeie)
12. Dire Straits - So far away (beetje stukgedraaid, maar toch goed)
13. Spandau Ballet - Chant #1 (meest funky nummer van deze gladde jongens)
14. Carly Simon - Nobody does it better (een van de beste Bond-thema's ooit)
15. Bobby Thurston - You got what it takes (geweldige disco met een fantastsiche 'break' in de lange versie. Jammer dat de single nog geen 3 minuten duurde)
16. Lloyd Cole & the Commotions - Rattlesnakes (die hele debuutplaat is een klassieker met perfecte popsongs)
17. Alan parsons Project - Let's talk about me (niet een van hun beste nummers, maar we hebben het hier wel over APP, dus toch in de top 20)
18. Shakatak - Down on the street (heb dit altijd een heel lekker radioplaatje gevonden)
19. Eurythmics - The miracle of love (mooi liefdesliedje met mooie melodie en dito productie)
20. Tarney Spencer Band - Cathy's clown (leuke electronische versie van het oude Everly-nummer, met dezelfde keyboard-sound als in Cliff Richard's We don't talk anymore, dan Alan Tarney dan ook produceerde.)

Net buiten de boot gevallen: The Cure, Elvis Costello & the Attractions, Madness, Novo Band, Glenn Frey, Mai Tai, Pat Benatar en Cliff Richard. Tja, hier zou makkelijk een hele leuke Top 40 van te maken zijn.

Ik was inmiddels al met de jaren 90 begonnen. Ik ga door tot en met 1999, als jij nou daarna de jaren 2000 doet, anders doen we dubbelop werk, dat zou zonde zijn. Bedankt alvast!
