Vandaag borduren we een beetje voort op gisteren:

de beste prelude of interlude op een album.

Een prelude is volgens Wiki 'een instrumentaal voorspel zonder vastliggende vorm. Oorspronkelijk was het een soort improvisatie, die vlak voor het echte werk werd gespeeld. Hij werd gecomponeerd als inleiding van een suite, als een muziekstuk dat een fuga voorafgaat en hiermee een contrast vormt, of als een zelfstandige compositie'.

Ook in de popmuziek is veelvuldig gebruik gemaakt van deze vorm, meestal als inleiding tot een volledig (redelijk episch) nummer of een conceptalbum. Een prelude zit vaak vast aan een volgend nummer en hoeft wat mij betreft niet altijd instrumentaal te zijn. Een interlude is een kort stukje dat fungeert als brug tussen het vorige en het volgende nummer op een album.

Komt veel voor bij symfo, maar vast ook bij andere muziek. Ik denk aan voorbeelden als Eldorado Overture van ELO, Space intro/Fly like an eagle van de Steve Miller Band of Pseudo silk kimono van Marillion.
