Ik geef normaal gesproken toch wel een paar albums 5,0*. In dit jaar leek het erop dat er geen één album 5,0* zou krijgen. Tot de maand december...
1. The Black Keys - El Camino
...want toen hoorde ik eerst de heerlijke eerlijke rock 'n roll van the Black Keys met El Camino (Play It Loud!). Zo veel aanstekelijke steengoede rocksongs op 1 plaat is bijna teveel van het goede. Little Black Submarines is voor mij de beste song van 2011. Wat een nummer...
2. The Roots - undun
Vlak daarna hoorde ik de plaat van één van de weinige hiphop bands waar ik echt heel enthousiast over ben. Undun van the Roots vind ik werkelijk een hele mooie plaat, vol met allerlei invloeden, wendingen en gastartiesten, maar toch één fraai meesterlijk geheel.
3. The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
Op nummer 3 staat the Joy Formidable met hun formidabele debuutalbum The Big Roar, met één van de beste nummers van het jaar: Whirring. Het is een prachtig afwisselend indierock album geworden.
4. Anthrax - Worship Music
Op nummer 4 heel opvallend thrashmetalband Anthrax: zij kwamen na vele jaren met een verrassend sterke hardrock plaat met opvallend veel echt (hele) goede songs en werkelijk een dijk van een productie.
5. Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See
Op nummer 5 één van mijn favoriete bands: the Arctic Monkeys. Eerder 2x nummer 1 in mijn jaarlijst, nu niet hoger, omdat zij op dit album bewust soms een wat rustiger vaarwater kozen. Dat klinkt overigens ook niet verkeerd, maar het klinkt ook weer niet zo briljant als op hun eerste twee platen.
6. Kasabian - Velociraptor!
Op nummer 6 Kasabian: op Velociraptor! staan weer een paar uitstekende dancerock nummers, met name op side B van het album. Over het geheel genomen haalt het net niet het uitstekende niveau van de voorganger die mijn nummer 1 van dat jaar was.
7. Okkervil River - I Am Very Far
Op nummer 7 een album van Okkervil River met meer variatie dan op hun eerdere albums en ook songs waar je eerst 'in moet komen'. Maar na meerder luisterbeurten is het voor mij toch een erg mooi album geworden, met een aantal echt hele mooie songs die doen denken aan muziek van the Arcade Fire en the Veils.
8. Black Joe Lewis & the Honey Bears - Scandalous
Op nummer 8 de fantastische classic soul & funk plaat van Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears (what's in a name?!), met ook blues- en rockinvloeden. Als je tijdens je review namen noemt als James Brown, Sam & Dave en the Rolling Stones dan zegt dat toch genoeg over de klasse van deze plaat, of niet?
9. Sharon Jones & the Daptones - Soul Time!
Op nummer 9 Soul Time! Deze kreet wordt altijd geroepen als zij en haar band beginnen aan een show. Prachtige pure soul en echt heerlijke diepe funk op deze plaat, gezongen door Sharon Jones, wiens prachtstem wel de vrouwelijke James Brown genoemd wordt met wat vlagen Aretha Franklin'. Dan weet u genoeg!
10. Verdena - Wow
Op nummer 10 de Italiaanse rockband Verdena, enigzins een kruizing tussen Pearl Jam en Nirvana maar dan op z'n Italiaans. Dit is een dubbelaar en hun rustigste album tot nu toe, maar wel gevuld met een aantal prachtsongs. Wordt in Italië als hun 'white album' gezien.
Net erbuiten vallen, ze hadden er net zo goed ook in kunnen staan, en ook echte aanraders:

2011 was een fantastisch concertjaar, wat een beetje doorklinkt in mijn top 10. Rond de zomer zag ik alleen maar hele goede concerten van the Arctic Monkeys (Keulen), the Big 4 (oa Anthrax & Metallica), Prince (NSJ op zondagnacht), the Black Crowes (afscheidsconcert Paradiso) en 2x the Arcade Fire. Hun concert in de HMH geef ik een 10. Fantastisch, één van mijn beste concerten ooit.
Later zag ik bijvoorbeeld ook nog Verdena in de kleine zaal van Paradiso, tekeer gaan als Nirvana begin jaren '90: vandaar ook de top 10 notering.
Op naar 2012: in ieder geval voor mij met concerten van Sharon Jones & the Daptones, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath en Pearl Jam! Voor iedereen alvast een goed muzikaal en gezond 2012!

Ik vond 2011 eigenlijk maar een zwak muziekjaar... maar toch zijn er wel enkele toffe platen uitgebracht! Helaas geen toprelease van Sincerely Yours dit jaar... sinds 2008 stond er drie keer een album van dat label in mijn top 3. Ook qua Top 40-hits, enkele uitzonderingen daargelaten (Give Me Everything, We Found Love) geen echte favorieten gevonden. Qua aantal sterren komt het geloof ik niet helemaal overeen met het aantal sterren dat ik op MuMe heb gegeven, zo nog even aanpassen dus.

The Boxer Rebellion is terug waar ze zijn begonnen: Bovenaan mijn lijstje. Fallen Empires komt binnen op een podiumplaats en dat gaat ten koste van mijn nummer 10, Blood Pressures. Een album dat gedurende het jaar steeds zwakker is geworden en uiteindelijk net op tijd uit mijn top 10 is gevallen.
Arctic Monkeys en Kasabian zie ik als de grootste verliezers. Ze horen nu niet meer bij mijn top-albums maar staan enkel nog in de subtop. Een bittere pil.
Of dit lijstje zo blijft tot het einde van het jaar weet ik nog niet. Over mijn nummers 9 en 10 heb ik nog grote twijfels, dus het zou zomaar kunnen dat ze voor 1 januari nog worden vervangen door Foo Fighters en/of The Roots.

Ik erger mij licht aan sommige users die wat 'overdreven' hun eigen zo bijzondere (?) lijstje presenteren.
Begrijp me goed, een mooie presentatie en toelichting waardeer ik alleen maar. Maar één voorbeeld: iemand presenteert hier bij de Top 10 van 2011 zijn complete top 50 met afbeeldingen. Een top 10 met afbeeldingen lijkt mij genoeg plus eventueel de andere 40 platen zonder afbeelding.
Eigenlijk ben ik ook inhoudelijk meer geïnteresseerd in waarom iemand juist die 10 (!) platen gekozen heeft, ipv een ellenlang lijstje met foto's te zien of verwijzingen naar blogs die aftellen.

Ik had precies hetzelfde west! Een paar plaatjes vind ik wel leuk, maar ik hoef geen dagelijkse update, of 40 (veel te grote) plaatjes. Verpest het behoorlijk voor de rest.

In de afgelopen paar paginas heeft er één 40 plaatjes en één een dagelijkse update...

Laat ik het zo zeggen: iedereen stopt er moeite in om z'n topXX hier te presenteren, die twee betreffende personen waarschijnlijk nog meer dan de rest. Maar zo worden de topXX van de rest wel heel erg ondergesneeuwd, niet echt respectvol, hoeveel moeite er ook in is gestoken.
Zo kan je 't ook presenteren:

En dan geen 40 grote plaatjes maar 5 kleine. Eventueel daarna thumbs. Maar laten we andermans top10 nu niet ondersneeuwen door discussie!

kijk, er zijn twee opties die ik heb...iedere dag een update of op de laatste dag alles plaatsen.
Dit omdat ik niet alles direct weg wil geven, anders is mijn blog totaal niet meer interessant.
Als het je niet boeit hoef je er niet op te klikken, maar het is mijn keuze geweest om het stap voor stapt te doen. En das misschien neit voor iedereen, maar ik weet dat er in ieder geval een paar mensen zijn die heel erg benieuwd naar zijn naar mijn top 10, die iedere dag de link zullen klikken...
Helaas is het niet mogelijk om een dag oude post aan te passen, want dat heeft eigenlijk mijn voorkeur, heb ik op de andere fora waar deze lijst komt te staan wel gedaan.
(en ik doe hier geen plaatjes, omdat ik die plaatjes maar onoverzichtelijk vind op deze site).

waarom zijn mijn keurig gezochte 280x280 nu ineens niet zichtbaar? het ging om de 40, niet om de mijne! ik wil ze graag weer terug iig. laat mensen lekker plaatjes posten en dagelijks updaten.

Omdat je ze van Rateyourmusic.com haalt (behalve die van Bjork) en die kun je niet op andere sites embedden. Het valt me nu pas op dat er meer plaatjes dan alleen die van Bjork hadden moeten staan...
