Ik kan me eigenlijk niet tot tien toppers beperken. Zelfs een top 20 is al lastig zat.

Wel opmerkelijk eigenlijk dat iedereen voornamelijk kiest voor nummers die voor of tot 1980 zijn opgenomen. Alsof hij daarna niets belangwekkends meer heeft uitgebracht (wat in vergelijking met zijn jaren zeventig-werk ongetwijfeld waar is).

Prachtige top 20, gaucho

Blij dat het vreselijke "I Just Called To Say I Made a Terrible Ballad" er niet tussenstaat!

De helft is van Songs In The Key Of Life (en dan heb ik me nog ingehouden...)

Die hoort daar natuurlijk ook niet in. Dat nummer is één van de meest teleurstellende nummers die een door mij gerespecteerd artiest ooit heeft uitgebracht. Ik kon me destijds haast niet voorstellen dat het van hem was, ook al herkende ik zijn stem.

Werkelijk álles is fout aan dat nummer, inclusief die kleffe clip met die rode telefoon. Het was maar voor een soundtrack, maar toch...ik heb het Stevie nooit helemaal vergeven.

Gelukkig staat er ontzettend veel goeds tegenover.

"I Just Called To Say I love You" is net de grootste hit ooit van Stevie Wonder en dat nummer wordt nu nog vaak gedraaid. In het begin vond ik het nog enigszins leuk, maar het klinkt nu toch wel melig, hij heeft veel betere nummers uitgebracht. Neen, ik ben het vaak niet eens met het singleskopende publiek.

Ik vind I Just Called To Say I Love You net een heel mooi nummer. Het pianodeuntje vind ik erg mooi.

Nou ja, smaken verschillen. I Just Called to Say is voor mij geen haar beter dan "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" van een zekere Glenn Medeiros, toch zo ongeveer het vreselijkste nummer qua meligheid ooit...

Ik dacht dat "I Just Called to Say" geheel door synthesizers werd begeleid. "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" van Glenn Medeiros vind ik nog een stuk erger vooral qua zang en bovendien is dat een cover (oorspronkelijk van George Benson).
