Met dank aan chevy93 heb ik eens zitten denken over een top 20 van de jaren 90. Ik ben erachter gekomen dat dit decennium eigenlijk zeker niet moet onderdoen voor mijn zo geliefde jaren 80 en 00. Qua muziekstijlen zit er niet zoveel variatie in maar ik ben nu eenmaal een rockfanaat. Nog even deze net bij mij opgekomen epifanie mededelen: wat een fantastisch jaar was 1999 wel niet!

72 lijstjes. De hiphop lijkt weer wat aan terrein te verliezen, ondanks de redelijk grote hoeveelheid getagde users die van hiphop houden.

Als je het over de jaren 90 hebt musicwise kun je niet om de Hiphop heen! Dit jonge originele muziekgenre explodeerde werkelijk in dat decennium en kwam op het toneel om er voor altijd te blijven. Of je het nou hebt over de lyrics of de muzikale productie, beiden waren van een ongeëvenaard niveau in de nineties!
Mijn voorliefde voor jaren negentig Hiphop druipt van deze top 30 af, maar ik heb mijn best gedaan om ruimte te maken voor andere genres.

Mja ik vind Black Love (minstens) evengoed als het veel bekendere Gentlemen.


Op de meeste grote namen uit de jaren 90 ben ik ondertussen allang uitgekeken (Radiohead, Nirvana, de Peppers, Pearl Jam, REM,...).
Voor mij draait dit decennium vooral rond de sublieme indierock die toen werd gemaakt (Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Sebadoh, Pavement,...).
Verder idd een sterk hip-hopdecennium en de geboorte van een paar fijne (sub)genres als post-rock, trip-hop, stoner,... en ook wel een paar legendarische dance-albums.
Naast de geniale platen van Richard Thompson natuurlijk

Dat het verrassend moest zijn heb ik dan gemist in de openingspost, ik heb gewoon mijn 30 favoriete 90's albums gepost, sorry...

O.k. Als jij ze echt goed vind, dan is dit ook jou lijst. Je hoeft je er ook niet voor te verontschuldigen en geen verrassingen in je lijst te zetten als je er van overtuigd bent dat jouw 30 of 40 albums ook voor jou de besten zijn.
Ik vind wel dat jij sowieso vele goeie albums in je lijst heb staan. Nou moet ik eerlijk gezegd wel toegeven dat ik je nummer 17 van Heather Nova, nummer 18 van Bush en nummer 19 van Slayer tot nu toe nooit gehoord heb, uitgezonderd de singles ervan. Ik dacht waarachtig dat deze lijst veel gemakkelijker zou worden dan die van de 70s en 80s maar dat viel tegen. Van de longlist van meer dan 500 albums naar een 'short' list en toen had ik er nog steeds bijna 100. Bij de 70s waren mijn keuzes ver van het groep gemiddelde en bij de 80s lijst zat ik er tot mijn verbazing veel dichter bij. Eens kijken hoe het deze keer vergaat met de 90s.
