Zoals de titel al aangeeft, een knock-out spelletje met de beste debuutsingles die er ooit zijn uitgebracht, geïnspireerd door deze post op Consequence of Sound. De Top1 00 van CoS is alvast automatisch genomineerd.

Regels voor het nomineren:
- 10 nummers per persoon.
- (vanzelfsprekend) maximaal 1 nummer per uitvoerende artiest.
- Bij een debuutsingle waar meerdere songs op staan ga je uit van de A-kant.
- Promo- en demosingles die niet officieel zijn uitgebracht tellen in principe niet mee. Ga uit van de eerste officiële single (die kans maakte om in de hitlijsten te belanden).
- Bij twijfel/discussie of het wel een debuutsingle krijgt de nominator het voordeel van de twijfel, mits hij zijn keuze goed kan beargumenteren. We gaan hier niet onnodig over soebatten.
- Graag het jaartal waarin de single uitkwam tussen haakjes vermelden.
- Om te controleren of het om een debuutsingle gaat kun je het beste de database van RYM gebruiken.
- Na 24 uur volgt een nieuwe nominatieronde van 5.

De debuutsingle van The Jackson 5 is trouwens Big Boy. Kwam er toevallig laatst achter dat ze een paar dingetjes hadden uitgebracht vóór ze bij Motown kwamen.

In de startlijst staan er minstens tien die niet kloppen. Zo is I Bet ook helemaal niet het debuut van de aapjes, Marquee Moon niet die van Television en Hold On niet die van Sam & Dave.

Volgens mij klopt Otis Redding trouwens ook niet...

Waarom denk je dat? Volgens mij is dit echt de eerste.

Had het toevallig laatst nog bekeken op Wikipedia en daar staan nog twee singles vóór These Arms of Mine genoemd. RYM noemt ze niet maar Discogs noemt wel één van de twee. Lastig.

Ik denk dat jij Fat Gal / Shout Bamalama bedoelt? Dat zijn singles van Otis Redding & The Pinetoppers. The Pinetoppers is de band waar Otis in speelde voor hij solo doorbrak. Omdat op een gegeven moment wel duidelijk was dat hij een stuk meer talent had dan de anderen en wel eens groot zou kunnen gaan worden werd de naam veranderd in Otis Redding & The Pinetoppers. Beetje hetzelfde verhaal als The First Edition die later opeens Kenny Rogers & The First Edition heette.

Die gaan we even vervangen dan.

Hmm, dan heeft de redactie van Consequent of Sound hun werk niet echt goed gedaan.

Wanneer werd die naam dan veranderd? Als dat voor het uitbrengen van Fat Gal is, en Fat Gal dus is uitgebracht als Otis Redding & the Pinetoppers, dan lijkt dat me de debuutsingle. Ik kwam ook nog het nog eerdere Gettin' Hip tegen (1960).

Ik denk er even over na. Wellicht het solodebuut van Marvin Gaye. Overigens merk ik dat RYM ook niet helemaal volledig is. Zij geven Time is On My Side als debuut van The Stones, daar zaten er nog een stuk of vier voor .

Huh, bij mij staat op RYM gewoon Come On als de eerste single genoemd.

Ik zal de meeste singles nog wel even nalopen voordat we daadwerkelijk beginnen. Mochten er alsnog singles doorheen glippen die geen debuutsingles zijn geweest dan worden ze onverbiddelijk gediskwalificeerd en krijgt de tegenstander een bye.

Dat vroeg ik niet. Het lijkt me beter om gewoon met bronnen te werken die het aantonen. Ik kom alleen maar bronnen tegen die Fat Gal een single van Otis Redding & the Pinetoppers noemen. Heb jij een bron die aangeeft dat het eerst als The Pinetoppers is uitgebracht?

Born and raised in the US state of Georgia, Redding quit school at age 15 to support his family, working with Little Richard's backing band, the Upsetters, and performing at talent shows for prize money. In 1958, he joined Johnny Jenkins's band, the Pinetoppers, with whom he toured the Southern states as a singer and driver. An unscheduled appearance on a Stax recording session led to a contract and his first single, "These Arms of Mine", in 1962.

Hoeveel duidelijker wil je het hebben?

Er staat idd heel duidelijk Otis Redding and the Finetoppers. Dus ook gewoon onder zijn naam uitgebracht, weliswaar met begeleidingsband. Dan lijkt These Arms of Mine me niet zijn debuutsingle. Dat was precies mijn punt.

Hier heb je een goed punt. Ik denk dat we er beter aan doen om promosingles niet mee te tellen, aangezien deze vaak niet officieel zijn uitgebracht en daarom ook geen hit konden worden.
Zal ik de regel dan aanpassen? Dat betekent dus dat de eerste officiële single telt, promo's en demo's kun je vergeten.
