Onze duidelijke nummer 1. De meeste punten en ook in de meeste lijstjes. Alleen het klassement met de meeste nummer 1 noteringen winnen Pretenders niet. Vier keer op de eerste plaats bij musicborst, Jizze, Bucquoy en likeahurricane.

The Pretenders brachten 2000 Miles uit in november 1983 als de lead single van hun album Learning to Crawl. Het nummer werd geschreven door Chrissie Hynde, een jaar nadat gitarist James Honeyman-Scott in 1982 overleed aan een drugsoverdosis. Hoewel het vaak wordt geïnterpreteerd als een kerstlied vanwege de winterse sfeer en de tekst over hereniging, benadrukte Hynde dat de "sense of distance in the lyrics" eigenlijk verwijst naar Honeyman-Scott en het gemis na zijn dood. Het nummer werd ook muzikaal beïnvloed door Otis Reddings Thousand Miles Away, wat bijdroeg aan de melancholische ondertoon.

We gaan eerst de nummers 2 van alle Greatest Hits van dit jaar nog een kans geven. Uit onderstaande lijst mag je een Top 10 samenstellen (nummer 1 krijgt 10 punten, nummer 2 negen enz.) en voor maandag 30 december 12:00 uur hier posten. De 10 (!) platen met de hoogste score gaan we maandag koppelen aan de winnaars van dit jaar voor de eliminatieronde.

Inderdaad, een behoorlijke verrassing dat The Ronettes op #2 zijn beland. Wel terecht. Sterker: ze hadden van mij met alle plezier mogen winnen, want een stuk leuker dan de zouteloze winnaar.
Ondanks mijn zure apfelstrudelopmerkingen, toch dank voor je kerstweek, 50tracks. Stiekem er meer van genoten dan ik liet blijken.

En al is het nu appelbeignets met gestoofde kweeperen vergelijken, deze lijst is natuurlijk wel alle-jezukke-is-geboren-halleluja-veel beter dan 95% van die kerstklanken.
Hier had ik wel 30 toffe nummers kunnen kiezen. Dan ga ik ook zeker voor kwantiteit: drie nummers van een kwartier in mijn Top 10 (als we de Patrick Cowley remix van 'I Feel Love' nemen).
En lieve mensen, luister toch even eerst naar The Pineapple Thief voordat je het nummer rücksichtslos elimineert omdat je het niet kent.
