Niet al te lang over nagedacht, waardoor ik ongetwijfeld dingen vergeten ben (sterker nog, heb al gelijk een edit gemaakt precies omdat ik iets vergeten was, hoop dat niemand het zag).

Het eerste nummer wat me te binnen schoot toen ik het thema zag was Mein Herz Brennt. Perfecte albumopener wmb. Spannend intro dat je benieuwd maakt naar wat komen gaat, met, toepasselijk voor een openingsnummer, een tekst die de luisteraar om aandacht vraagt. En die aandacht wordt ook terugbetaald want de rest van het nummer is een keiharde knaller. Bovendien ook een nummer dat representatief is voor de rest van het album.

Telegraph Road is in zekere zin een beetje een twijfelgeval, omdat het zo lang doorgaat dat het al snel niet meer echt als een albumopener voelt. Ook niet echt een nummer wat per se sterk is in een albumcontext, want de rest van het album is een stuk minder interessant. Hetzelfde geldt in iets minder mate voor Innuendo. In beide gevallen zijn de nummers op zich gewoon zo sterk dat ik ze toch wou noemen.

Voor Behind the Lines geldt een beetje het omgekeerde. Niet per se het sterkste opzichzelfstaande nummer in de lijst, maar als albumopener werkt het gewoon zo goed.

Je kunt gerust editten, ik zal de lijstjes pas verwerken als ik ook met de uitslag kom.

Ik heb mij beperkt tot tracks die ik ken als albumopener (dus bv geen Innuendo), en daardoor is het wel erg progrockerig geworden. Maar dat vind ik helemaal niet erg..
Behind the lines van Genesis is inderdaad wel de ultieme albumopener (en concertopener), ook al is het nog lang niet hun beste song.
